Ok.. I'm working on something pretty cool and I want you good people to list out things to do in Tuscaloosa - on and off campus. I want a good mix of "on" and "off" the beaten path things that are interesting. Cool places to take a picture of yourself would be good too. They DO NOT all have to be UA related.

I'll go ahead & mention the obvious:

1) In front of BDS
2) Bryant Museum
3) Denny Chimes
4) Dreamland
5) City Cafe
7) The Houndstooth
8) Wings

...etc.

BUT, what I'm also looking for would be something like, "self picture in front of "The Sack" in Bryant Museum" or "Your hand on top of Joe Namath's Hand at Denny Chimes" or "On the Bama Belle (?) riverboat at Black Warrior River" ... capiche?

You can also ask questions like "How many steps from sidewalk to door in front of Gorgas Library" (also please provide an answer to your questions!). Questions should be something where person could go to that location and find the answer.

Good topic. I'll add a couple...

In the middle of a brick walkway between the Bryant Conference Center and the Four Points hotel (or somewhere in that area at least - maybe its between the museum and conference center) there is a raised concrete monument about 2 feet tall that has the University seal on top of it. My (future) wife and I had our picture made on top of that seal in our graduation gowns about 30 minutes after we became alumni.

I also used to like driving out to the little lake (Harris I think?) where the waterski team practiced. Beautiful, peaceful place...

See the MDB march into the stadium.
Get a four year degree from the Capstone :0)

But take five years...

:)
I actually took 4.5. My FIRST senior fall semester was 1992. :) I was hoping to follow up that success with an encore championship semester in fall 1993, but no such luck :(

And while I'm kinda on the subject... For those who don't think they can't afford to go to UA or afford to send their kids to UA, I beg you to find a way if you / they are academically eligible to go. I'm absolutely not one of those who thinks you have to be an alum to be a fan. That's asinine. HOWEVER, the experience of being in Tuscaloosa for 3 or 4 years will be unforgettable for you / your kids. And NEVER, EVER, EVER under any condition send your kids to Awburn! :D

My parents moved out west after I graduated from Alabama in 2006, and I have a younger brother. He's a few years away from going to college, but he's starting to look. I'm doing everything in my power to get him to Alabama. I won't stand for a Pac-10, Mountain West part of the family. :biggrin2:

Nick's is still there, and it's still the best $10 steak you're gonna get anywhere and the Nickademuses will still knock you on your butt.

Still haven't made it out to the cliffs on any return trip to T-town since I left in '93. Gotta do that this year!

Great suggestions!

Nicks is still there, thank goodness.

Breakfast at Waysider.
Explore the abandoned insane asylum in Northport (watch out for police).Visit Moundville.
Drink a yellowhammer at Gillette's.
Pick up a coed at Houndstooth.
Another good one, but go late night for the added effect. And the police let us go. Of course, that was 20 years ago!

Another 4.5er here!

Too bad my 5 football seasons were 2000-2004.

Few things in my life make me as proud as my diploma from the Capstone!

As for things to do in Tuscaloosa:
  • "People Watch" on the Quad on a Friday afternoon
  • Tailgate on the Quad for a home game
  • Eat at Rama Jama's the Friday before a home game
  • Go to the River Walk for an afternoon stroll

I think everyone should enjoy a plate of ribs and white bread at the original Archibalds. Its a tight squeeze in there, but worth it.

In no particular order.......things i do when going back to T-town for games,, living 10 hours away I only get to do it a few times a year, then think about it the rest of year:

Wings for cheese fries and beer
BBQ nachos outside Houndstooth on game weekends
Yellow hammer at Galettes
Pitcher of beer outside Phil's(great people watching)
Beers outside Houndstooth(see above)
park at coleman, take a quick look inside and check out baseball field
Bryant museum
Quad on gamedays, just walk around and take it all in
Listen to mdb at the mound and library steps
Catch 22 for infusion shots and best bloody mary i've ever had
Team arriving at champions walk

just a few things that come to mind, IS IT GAMEDAY YET!!!!

1. I like to have a drink at Gallette's for old times sake. I miss Lee's Tomb very much. (What a cool name for a bar!)

2. I also like hot Krispy Kreme doughnuts on Sunday morning. Yummy!

3. When I was little, my Aunt used to take my brother and I to the airport to meet the team from a big away game. I would imagine this would still be a fun thing to do!

4. If you have young children the Homecoming festivities are classic. Sorority dance competitions Friday afternoon. Pep Rally and bonfire Friday night. Saturday morning, the parade and look at all the decorations around campus. Tailgate. GAME/victory!

All of the things listed above are great! But one of my favorite places to visit in Tuscaloosa is the Westervelt-Warner Museum of American Art, in North River Yacht Club. This museum has one of the greatest collections of early American art in the world. Great place for history buffs and an unbelievable "hidden-gem".

I was in TTown this past weekend and that place will be rocking come Sept 4th. BDS will look immaculate once all of the powerwashing of the dirt and sawed up concrete is gone. The quad will be a madhouse, so will the strip. It was nice eating at the City Cafe on this past Monday morning.

Don't really understand the fixation with Wings - they used to be all over the state, and there's still one in Birmingham. The Alabama memoribilia is nice, but the food is nothing special.

This is kinda corny; but . . . stand on the quad for three minutes on a Saturday morning/afternoon in October during pre-game without saying a word. Take in the sun, the warm/cool air, the sights, the sounds, the color, the people. I'm telling you . . . there's few things better.
