Cecil Hurt is reporting that Alfy Hill missed practice today. Sources are saying that the reason seems to be issues with the clearinghouse.

Ugh ... that doesn't sound good at all.

The timing seems odd, though. I can't recall a guy going through 2 weeks of practice with nothing being said about academics, then something pops up.

My thoughts exactly. What would pop up now that wasn't questioned two weeks ago?

I remember when camp started Gentry Estes said Alfy was built.

Cecil is reporting that sources are saying it's a Clearinghouse issue for Alfy Hill. This is very strange. He's been here since the summer. As far as I know, he was a solid student, at a good North Carolina high school. I've never seen a guy get to the day of classes starting, after being on campus for two months, and then the NCAA pulls the plug. :mad2:

Having Flashbacks of last year when everything seemed to go wrong just before the first game week. I'm just ready to get back to games and not worrying about this type of stuff.

This! Anyone else feel like the first part of the summer was just the calm before the storm? No, I don't feel like the sky is falling, but I sure wish we could fast forward to the first game.

The clearinghouse is just about grades and academic requirements aren't they? If Bama thought this was just a minor bump in the road wouldn't they wait to give his scholarship to someone else? :conf2:

Well, that's the problem. The Clearinghouse is also in charge of checking curriculum to make sure you've had everything you're supposed to have. Lorenzo Washington, for instance, had somewhere around a 3.0 GPA coming out of high school but didn't have one of the required core classes he needed. He ended up in prep school. That same thing has happened to other players at other schools.

I would be surprised at this point if he is able to remain at UA. It's a big step to go ahead and bring Jones in and, more tellingly, to allow UA-friendly outlets (Tuscaloosa News, TiderInsider) to report on it. Tells me it's a foregone conclusion.

This seems like a re-peat of what happened to Harold James nine years ago. Yet, the NCAA didn't have issues with his transcript until after his freshman season. I hope everything gets cleared up for Alfy Hill. The timing is awful for him.

I mean the clearinghouse already cleared or he could not have signed and be at UA. They make no sense sometimes.

This is not being covered by the same department as the MD case. His would fall under infractions, not grade issues.
