Do the greeks sit in that section in the upper south endzone that was empty tonight?

I can remember people on here complaining about them being no shows in the past, so I was just wondering.

This is an absolute disgrace and slap in the face to the team, coaching staff, and fans like myself that wish they could take their families but it is simply too expensive at the moment. If they won't show or stay then give the tickets to those who will.

JMO, but this is what Saban means when he says for fans to do their part. I'm always the guy stuck in the upper deck that you can probably hear at field level and I may only get there once a year. And I'm there till the post game handshake.

I never was lucky enough to be one of the few to suit up, but I'll damn sure be the 12th man!:BigA:

yes, basically half of the south endzone upper deck is all students now. The greeks sit in the lower level which has been filled out every game this year. upper deck never filled up today

Those seats in the south uppers are overflow for students once the lowers fill. Greeks reserved seating is still in the lowers. Folks, I hate to break it to you, but this is going to happen with a stadium seating capacity of 101K. The students complained about needing more seating so they got it, but if they can't motivate themselves to show up, fill their allotted seats and stay for the whole game, the university will take that allotment away and make those Tide Pride seats.

In the meantime, the university needs to make the network airing the game put their camera elsewhere.
 
That empty section stands out as an eyesore to an otherwise perfect breathtaking view of Bryant Denny. I can't imagine the folks that can correct it not doing so if it were to continue. It would be like letting a large weed grow in the middle of your newly sodded lawn. :D
 
It was just embarrassing. If they can't sit in the bottom bowl then only they don't weant to sit on the upper level. I have friends who are on the Tide Pride waiting list who would die if they could sit there.
 
The students have a system of paperless tickets. Swipe your ID car to get into the game. You can sell or give away your ticket on line, so there is no excuse for not getting rid of a ticket you don;t plan on using. If you "eat" a student ticket, you are disadvantaged in purchasing a post-season ticket. Having that many no shows is an embarrassment, however. I agree with Savannah, maybe time to redraw the boundary of the student section. The University can certainly sell those tickets at a greater price.

If your a student and plan on going to the game and your a now show, after 2 times you lose the privilege of buying a student ticket and it goes to someone else. I might have the rules wrong but I know there was a change this year. With 5000 on the Tide Pride waiting list . I am #3204 and have been on it for 3 years now I think the students should have to pay the face value of the ticket if their a no show and loose their student status the rest of the year unless they return or sell the ticket. There are thousands of fans that cannot afford 50.00 tickets and have been Bama fans their entire lives , who have never seen a game. Sell those unused seats at 10.00 so a guy who is willing to stand in line at the will call can support the team.

There was a big article back in the summer in the Crimson White about this and the some of the students said it was their right as students not to go to the game even if they had a ticket. I know the majority of the students are huge supporters. But you have the privileged few who cause a thread like this to happen. Give their seats away youll see it stop after one game.

I disagree that the "majority" of students are "huge supporters." If that were true, there would never be any empty students seats.

There is a sense of entitlement and apathy regarding game attendance at the university that has been there since I was a student in the late 80's. The students always say they want to go to the games. They certainly want the cheap tickets, but then the game rolls around and, well, they'd rather party with their buddies in an off-campus apartment or on The Strip. They're young. They're "anti." I get it.

The university has never managed its student tickets/seating issues well. They need to figure out the average student attendance, then provide student seating/ticketing that is about 5-7% less than that number. Our student section has never been an intimidating presence. We've never been a factor that, say, LSU's student section has been. It's a combination of student attitude and university mismanagement - plenty of blame to go around IMO.
 
Not only did the whole world see it last night, but we've seen it at every game we've been to this year. It's EMBARASSING to say our stadium is SOLD out, which it always is, then have ESPN show this HUGE empty section. As many have said there are so many fans who can't get season tickets who would LOVE to have those seats. Hopefully higher powers will step in.

I was right there with you. I was resident manager of a small (dumpy) former Howard Johnson's Motel called Cobblestone Court, that was directly across the street from The Booth. I believe it's still there.

Besides being in the band in 89, I remember a few game days slummed on a couch recuperating from the prior nights outing on the strip, and listening to Eli and Doug e' Doo. So I agree that many students can be vocal about their allegiance, but let the the strip dictate their motivation for sitting in a loud sunny stadium on occasion.
 
They don't want to show up for MSU, but they will cry and complain if they can't get FL tickets.


If the university just went back to the allotment prior to the east side expansion it would correct much of the problem. Then after not getting some tickets for a while maybe some of them would start to show up if they ever had the chance to get them again.


I can proudly say that I either attended the games I had student tickets to or sold them to another student. On one occasion I had to leave town last minute for a funeral and have my tickets to my neighbor. Its ridiculous that the students can't do a better job of getting there, but it was the same thing when I was there 92-97.

I think all tickets should be subject to utilization accountability. The person entitled to the ticket should be the same person to use the ticket, and if not it should count against them resulting in loss of their tickets rights after a specified number of games.
 
Empty Student Section

I think UA needs to reevaluate the student ticket allotment next year at BDS there has not been one game that by halftime the upper student section has not been half full and last night was a total embarrasment. Here is the email to head of our ticket office to voice concerns. I have season tickets but it is embarrassing to see the Student Section as it was last night and I would be willing to be there are thousands on waiting lists that would proudly use them.
