He mentioned JaMarcuss because the Raiders were mentioned as to where Cam, if everyone else passes on him, would end up going. I really don't think race had anything to do with it.

If it were about scrambling QB's then Jamarcus Russell wouldn't be in the discussion.............

Interview Michael Vick and then interview Cam, they don't run the jet sweep and read option in the NFL. Cam will have to read defenses without his coach doing it for him.

It will be interesting to see how he fares in the NFL. He may be great, but he may not be so great. I figure if he goes to a crappy team, he will probably be the starter next year (if he can learn the playbook and read defenses better). I just cannot wait until he is gone from the SEC.

people who think he's a runner only must not be very knowledgeable on football. when you can throw the ball as hard as he can you're gonna have to have an elite cover corner to cover WR's. you dont have time to swat the ball away and it always gets there before the defender can make a play. i swear i didnt see him over or under throw a short, intermediate or deep pass all season.

You hardly see a QB do remarkably well right out of the gate. I can't see Cam responding well to criticism, can you all?

I think the fact that he won't be so much faster or elusive in the NFL will play mind games with him. He seems like the type that would get frustrated.

He got frustrated in the IB in the first half when he was sitting on the ground 3 times. He got up and jerked his chin strap and the look on his face was priceless.

I think Cam has the arm to play in the NFL, the problem is that he's a punk basically. You don't go from being a punk to a responsible adult able to handle a million dollar salary in 24 months. He can do well initially but Its very likely he will end up shooting his career in the foot. for that matter his dad may end up digging his professional grave.

Re: Associated Press: Gil Brandt says Newton will go in first half of NFL draft

You have to be impressed with how elusive Newton was while running the ball this year, but a lot of the credit has to go to his OLine. Aside from the Bama game, the holes up the middle for him to run through were huge. He was at the second level before he was touched on the majority of his runs. Yes, he was bigger and faster than most of the defenders who were trying to bring him down, but I never really saw him do what Tebow did and run through traffic to get a tough 3 yards - he's a different kind of player.

The NFL will be a different story for Newton, and hopefully a rude awakening. The talent on NFL teams if obviously a huge step up from the college level, and there is no way he has an OLine in the NFL that can do what his OLine did at Auburn - not on a consistent basis anyway. Is he as quick trying to escape a blitz from NFL players? We'll see. It takes him so long to get up to speed when compared to Vick, I just don't see that there's any comparison. He has shown a strong arm with good enough accuracy to play and win in college, but whether or not that will translate to success in the NFL is open for debate.

Personally, I think his running ability is overrated, and without being a legitimate threat to run his arm will need to improve to be successful.

That being said, I can easily see a team taking a chance on him in the 1st round, assuming he doesn't blow it at the combine.

Randall Cunningham was incredible, and possibly the most underrated QB of the last 20 years.

But his best season came late in his career when he relied more on his arm than his legs. (Although, it can be argued it also came because he had Randy Moss & Chris Carter.)

As for Cam, I think he'd make a great WR at the next level. If he's drafted as a QB, I think he'd need a few years of tutelage under a top-notch QB coach to be successful. He throws off his back foot far too often, and relies on his athletic ability to win. That rarely translates to success in the NFL. Vick is probably the best athlete to play QB in the NFL ever, and it took him a life changing event to realize he needed to sit down with a playbook and learn an offense before he became successful.

Cam's an amazing athlete and who knows, maybe he could be a successful QB on the next level, but I know that catch he made earlier this year (Ole Miss game maybe?) was amazing considering he doesn't play the WR position. He caught it over the shoulder falling out of bounds in the back of the endzone. That's something you can't teach. If he wanted to be a top-notch WR on the next level, he'd be one.

And FWIW, I don't think Cam's as big of a "punk" as Vince Young or Michael Vick were when they came into the league. I think Cam's a liar, a cheat & probably pretty arrogant, but he doesn't seem to have the attitude problem Young has and he doesn't seem to be a "thug" like Vick was.

First round pick and I think he has all the physical tools to do well in the pros. Furthermore, I give him credit for leadership! With his huge ego and "me first" approach to the game, I'm impressed that the rest of the team didn't tank. On the contrary, his O-Line played lights-out for him all season. (Hold the PFP comments.) Even the most cynical has to acknowledge there must be something there (intangibles! Not just $) to inspire his teammates to keep playing to their maximum potential despite his garnering the credit.

At any rate, I hope he goes pro and feel confident he will. Auburn next year will not be good... with or without Cam.

People talk about him being a runner. Yea he ran for less than 70 yards on us without his sack yards included. Bama lost the game because of his arm. He threw the ball when he needed too.

Give him his dues because he is good. I just hope his first play is against Ray Lewis. :biggrin2:

I think someone will trade up and he'll go in the top five picks if not number one.

There's no way they're going to let this guy go in the middle of the round.

He may be the most physically gifted Quarterback to ever come out of college.

That reminds me of the SI article about Auburn. One of his OL said "he's taking us to the promised land."

Depends on who has the #1 pick. Right now that belongs to the Panthers. They wouldn't take him as a QB since they drafter Clausen as their franchise QB last year (don't ask me why).

#2 is the Bengals. I don't see them getting a new QB.
#3 is a 3-way tie between Denver, Detroit, and Buffalo. Denver wouldn't I don't think. Detroit sure wouldn't. Buffalo might because they don't have a franchise guy.

I can see him going in the top 5 but not #1 overall.

I contend that Bama lost the game because of a few things we DIDN'T DO as opposed to what $cam did. 2 busted coverages for TD's for the barn, 1 dropped TD pass for us. If we had done what we needed to on ANY of those 3 plays, it could have been an entirely different ball game. $cam really didn't do anything spectactular in the game, we just shot ourselves in the foot over and over. Coulda, shoulda, woulda.

Anyway, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if a team took $cam in the first half of the first round. Actually, I'd be more surprised if he WASN'T taken by then...
