As expected, Clowney picks USCe

ETG that's good info on Carroll. I believe most of that to be accurate. Although I believe their is probably more to his dislike for USCe than "Spurrier won't kiss his butt" because I can assure Nick Saban doesn't kiss anyone's butt.

yea but BC enjoys rubbing elbows with Saban. You could be right, maybe there is more to it and if there is, that is just one of the reasons.

Will keep you guys updated on Clowney, should know later today if he is taking his OV to FSU or not

I read an interesting question on the Carolina board. JC turns 18 on Feb 14th. If he signs on NSD, does a parent or legal guardian have to sign as well. I would think yeah. Does this have any bearing on his school of choice? that said, I still think he is a Carolina lean

I would think if he is 18 at the time of signing his L.O.I, he does not need a guardian to sign. Just a guess because I have no clue.

USC coaches to see Clowney tonight

By Phil Kornblut

USC assistant head coach for defensive Ellis Johnson and defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward will meet with South Pointe DE Jadeveon Clowney tonight after Clowney's basketball practice. That meeting should take place around 7:00 PM. USC defensive line coach Brad Lawing is not available for the meeting due to the death of his father. USC is scheduled to be the only school to see Clowney today. Yesterday LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis and Alabama assistant coach Chris Rumph met with him. Clowney is scheduled to visit Florida State this weekend but two sources said he might not take that visit. In fact, one source said Clowney might take an unofficial visit to USC Saturday. The Gamecocks will stage their biggest recruiting weekend of the campaign this weekend. Clowney currently is scheduled to visit Clemson January 28th. Right now he doesn't plan to announce a decision until February 14th, his birthday.

Keeping my fingers crossed that he makes it to Tally

If he takes an unofficial visit to Columbia this week, I don't like our chances.

On National signing day, he will be 17. FEB 14th he will be 18. Just throwing that out to Carolina fans, especially if as we have heard, his mom would like him to stay close to home. Again, i still think he is a Gamecock lean

I know you are just throwing it out there, but I don't believe for a minute that Clowney is on a different page than mom and waiting to show her he is going where he wants to go. With that said, it is possible that she states she left it up to him and he now is old enough to make his own decisions, unlike Cam Newton ;-) but IMO both will be in agreement on where he goes.

Change in plans for Clowney

By Phil Kornblut

DE Jadeveon Clowney of South Pointe has wrapped up his visit with USC defensive coaches Ellis Johnson and Lorenzo Ward. The meeting started out at school and continued at his home after basketball practice. Clowney was scheduled for an official visit to Florida State this coming weekend but has canceled that visit. He is considering coming to USC Saturday for an unofficial visit. He's taken an official visit to USC and one to Alabama. He is scheduled to visit Clemson January 28th. Right now he plans to wait until his birthday, February 14th, to announce his decision.

Even if he does it's not going to do anything for your chances. Although you probably already know that. If he doesn't sign with USCe he'll most likely wind up at Bama, although I'd be highly, highly surprised if he doesn't sign with USCe. JMHO.

I dont think that has anything to do with it. If anything its so he can have a huge party for both things at the same time. I just don't imagine it has anything to do with his mom, except maybe not having two gatherings so close together.

Don't see him being 18 meaning anything to his recruiting b/c he wants to take all his OVs and this will help him and then he can attach the bday party to the announcement party. Everything I'll read sounds like he's really trying to make a professional choice and if that's the case then I really like our chances. I haven't heard him say too much about USCe in the professional term, only close to home and friends are there. He always mentions NFL when he talks about Bama. JMO

I did not realize how well his trip was to UA. USC must be worried. My other question how much contact can you have with a recruit. I mean did they ride the bus home with him. It is like they are trying to put the lockdown to keep UA away. Apparantly they got him to cancel his visit to FSU which helps us and are wanting him to come to USC for an UOV this weekend. Now USC fans are jumping for joy but that looks to me like a really worried staff. Please do not go to FSU and come to USC this weekend. Give us one more chance please. Remember this is USC big recruiting weekend and they will have most of their current commits there. But how I am reading this sounds really good for us, because they would not be going through all this effort if they were not worried.

With all due respect TideWarrior, why shouldn't we do everything (within the rules) possible to land this kid? Chris Rumph met with him yesterday and that is no different than Ellis Johnson meeting with him today. It would be a gigantic failure on our staffs part to not do everything in our power to get JC back on campus and it looks like it worked.

I hope it comes as no surprise to you that we are all hoping for USC to have a gigantic failure in their recruitment of Clowney. ;)

I am just saying from everything I was hearing on your end before today was that USC had no worries, but this shows me the battle between UA and USC is alot closer than I myself thought it was. And yes I do expect USC to pull out all stops but again I did not realize we had gained so much ground.

I also concur with CS.;)

I don't know if you are specifically talking to me or just GC fans in general. I don't think I ever said USC had no worries and I was absolutely sure he was going to come back from Bama very impressed. My hope after the Bama trip was to let the aura of the trip wear off and get Ellis Johnson in to see him. Ellis only recruits 3-4 guys a year for us, tops, but he is our go-to guy in situations like this and looks like today was a success for him. I highly doubt the Clemson visit on the 28th happens, but if it does, its good news for you guys because that will be a 2day lecture on why he shouldn't go to USC. I don't believe that trip ever happens though. Convincing JC to come back to campus was a very neccessary step in his recruitment, following the visit to Bama. Also, it was long said by our insider on 247 site that he didn't think the FSU visit would ever fully materialize. He has been saying that for over a month.
