So who do you guys is the biggest 'layer of wood' on our team? I just got through viewing highlights of the Capital One Bowl last year and was watching Courtney Upshaw.

Holy snikies Batman!

Mark Barron? Hightower when healthy?

Or Cade Foster on special teams? hehe...

They said last spring (in the Bham news I think) that it was pretty much the consensus that Hightower was far and away the hardest hitter. Doubt he's gotten worse at it

Especially now that Mr. Hightower is back at 100 % I'd be willing to wager that he's hands down the hardest hitter on the team. Boy, I sure wouldn't want him coming at me full speed with my scrawny behind in his sights. However, with that said, I wouldn't want any player on Bama's football team coming at me full speed in the open field - lol

looking at the last few games of last season Im going to say Upshaw
Upshaw is a grown man, for sure. Wow is he impressive when he's 100% healthy - and I believe he could be a lottery pick in next year's draft if he plays anywhere near how he played in the last two games of the season! What a show he put on and yes, he's a heavy hitter indeed!

though not living up to his hype yet i'll go with Harris. He can flat out lay the lumber. speaking of hard hitters. you guys remember Rod Woodson? had he stayed he would have been tops on this list IMO

Nico can bring it, too.

We have a defense full of absolutely SICK studs this year - I suspect we're going to see some hellacious hits from most every one of them this fall...

I love to see guys wrap up and make sure tackles more than the big hit. Of course nothing gets you on ESPN like a big slobber knocker.

Before he was injured Hightower was a terror, I hope he gets all the way back this year....

Upshaw is fearless and Barron can lay the wood too...

It would be hard to pick one guy, it may end up being someone that we haven't even mentioned yet...

Without trying to rain on a parade, this time a year ago the hardest pound-for-pound hitter on the team was Rod Woodson, and that probably ought to clue you in on how relatively little importance is placed on this.

Honestly, I don't care how hard a hitter some of our guys are -- as long as the tackle is made. That's what matters the most. It doesn't matter if our guys just look at the opposition and he falls down for being scared. With that said, I do like to see a big hit every now and again and it makes the opposition at least do a double-take when they're coming over the middle for a pass or round a corner on the edge and think, 'boy, i sure hope that Dont'a Hightower fell down somewhere else and isn't about to take my head off'
