re: ESPNU 150

I knew Chris Casher was good but wow didnt know he was being considered as Top 10 talent. Makes him coming out of our backyard sting a little more.

I'm not sure Edwards is the #1 player in this class, but there's a case for it. What's with Arik Armstead at 17? ESPN and Rivals have both rated him poorly compared to what he ranks on Scout and 247. I'm glad to see EW as a 5 star. I think he's definitely deserving. Where's Reggie Ragland? He's a top 20 player in the country IMO. They've got him way back at 112. Brandon Greene getting some love at 25. Dillon Lee at 72, Tyler Hayes at 126, and Dakota Ball at 133.

Of our 12 commits, 9 are 4-stars or better (Rivals only has 5). I know most people tend to follow rivals more than ESPN, but I have actually been more of an ESPN fan for the last 3 years.

If you pay attention, rivals rankings tend to trend more in the direction of ESPN as they make updates. One of the best examples is Adrian Hubbard who ESPN had ranked high in the top 150 early in the process. Rivals didn't have him on the radar until the very end, and even then he never cracked their top 150. Now, Hubbard has one of the brightest futures of any of the young guys on our roster. OT Brandon Greene is this year's Hubbard.

Save a screenshot of each sites rankings and you will see rivals follow ESPN's lead. By the way, if you haven't read ESPN's player breakdown, it is infinitely more detailed than Rivals.

The one thing I do like about ESPN is they have detailed evaluations. Actually gives a little bit of reasoning behind the rankings.

Tom Luginbill in response to a question about Zeke Pike being a 3-star: "Watch Pike on tape and watch him in person which I have done in person on 3 separate occasions. I feel very confident we got this one right. Also, if you want to compare for yourself. Go to Youtube, watch QB Nate Sudfeld on tape and his workout video and do the same with Pike and makethe decision for yourself. One guy claims to have 30 offers, the other has 3 and I can tell you which one is better."

Corey Long on the same issue: "I saw Zeke at the Columbus Elite 11 and I thought he struggled. He threw the ball a little better at the NFTC that next day, which showed me the kid's ability to bounce back a little, but overall he did not look like a top-flight quarterback to me."

**Desperate Auburn Fan in Response: "Zeke had an sling on his arm at Big Cat, do you think he can improve in your eyes to gain a star or two. Obviously, many other websites saw something in him. Any chance you saw him after he was injured."

If Luginbill keeps that up, I will have to stop calling him Luginbarner. :D

True, but what will make this class historic is what happens in the top 7 since we will player a factor in the decision of 6 of the top 7, and what happens at the QB position. If we can get 3 of the top 7 and Kiel or Winston, wow.

Truthfully, I think we can land 15 of the top 150.

2012 ESPNU 150 - ESPN
As we began to research and pool together the top 300 prospects out of the 1,500 we have evaluated and graded for the 2012 class, it became more and more clear this is a top-heavy class with prospects that began to separate from the pack.

However, you also will see we have more grade 80 prospects in the 2012 ESPNU 150 than ever, which indicates the difficult choices made to fill out the rest of the list. In fact, the process of molding this group was similar to the 2010 class, where there could be much more movement in the top 10. There was no obvious choice for the top spot like there was last year with defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

A defensive lineman tops the ESPNU 150 for the third year in a row. Defensive end Mario Edwards of Denton (Texas) Ryan is No. 1.
ESPNU 150: On the outside looking in - ESPN
As we head into the summer camp season, which is followed by the fall evaluation period, the players below still have an opportunity to move up into the ESPNU 150. They just missed the cut but could be poised to make the jump at some point. Some are big-name prospects, while others are players you may not have heard much about but will.

Haha, not sure.

This is how the conversation started:

Comment from Roy: Please give me an explanation on Zeke Pike being a 5 star some places and a 3 star here.

Tom Luginbill: Roy, I was soooooo hoping this question would come up.

I do like the fact that we are in it for so many on that list that are uncommited. my only issue with ESPN is trying to figure out how they consider who is interested in who. They do not show Gunner or DGB interested in us. Makes me wonder sometimes about ESPN.

College Football Recruiting Schools - ESPN
That's true. I think their player evaluations are much better, but they do not follow the rumor mill as much. Basically, they make a top 5 list for each player and anyone not on that list is not listed under "interested." Additionally, they rarely update the lists unless they get information directly from the player regarding his preferences. ESPN is the best for player evaluations, but their top 5 list should be taken with a grain of salt.

I doubt it. He has All-World potential at safety.

Just my opinion here. After watching some of Williams' video he could play a variety of positions and be an All-American at any of them, he's that good of a player IMO. We're very lucky to get this guy out of FSU and Florida country.

With Williams and Clinton Dix on the roster the future at safety looks very bright for years to come.
