Are there any highlights of him out there? From what I've heard he is an absolute MONSTER, and I can't wait to see him play!

Re: DT Darren Lake has a Bama offer

Does anyone know if he plays basketball? Last fall, I went to see Bob Jones play in a Thanksgiving Tournament in Huntsville so I could see Levi Randolph and Reggie Ragland. They happened to play (and get BEAT by) Sumter County. I figured Ragland would be able to dominate inside against a "little 3A school" (seeing as BJHS was the defending 6A champs), but Sumter County had a BIG ole boy that more than held his own inside. It had to be Lake...

if it prevents anyone it will be nero.
I would hope we could take all three including Nero. His highlights are great. Lake has greater size and if he has the quickness and speed of Nero I can see the Marcel comparisons. I would like to see some video of Lake.

Not necessarily. Sumter Co. and Livingston have a long rich history of putting out great basketball teams. Between the two, state championships have been won in 1987, 1988, 1994, 1998,1999, 2003, 2004, and 2005. And aside from those, between the two, appearances in the championship game have been made in 1975, 1991, 1992,1995, 2002, 2004, and 2006. Mario Austin (who played at Sumter Co. and Miss. St.), for example, had at least 5 other guys on his team during his sophomore year that were within one inch of him in height and they were all about the same size. I know because I grew up playing against all of them (as well as Erwin Dudley - RC Hatch and Antoine Pettway - Keith/Wilcox Co.) There are a ton of corn fed, hand spanked mammoth young men in that area. And don't let the 3A thing fool you. We routinely handled 5A & 6A schools.

I sure hope so, but I saw on BOL that he has no favorite right now, is going to more camps, and that his mother will be integral to his school choice. so....:conf3:

Well then there is nothing to worry about. Lake will be at UA before you know it. CNS and his wife Terry are very good with propects mothers. Right now to me 'Big Lake' looks like a must have in this class.

I found the rosters from the tournament, and it was Lake. But I agree with you about their 3A classification having nothing to do with their talent level. They had a 5'6'' kid that scored over 40 pts against Bob Jones. He couldn't be stopped. Unfortunately, his size probably kept him from getting any offers from top programs, but I hope some school gave him a chance. Sumter Co. were easily good enough to win state this year and hold their own against most 4A-6A schools, but unfortunately lost at regionals to the eventual state champs.

Mack has it right, that part of the state (Sumter County, Livingston, R.C. Hatch) are NO JOKE in basketball. They regularly beat the bigger schools with ease.

Between R.C. Hatch (10 titles, the most in Alabama), Central-Tuscaloosa (6), Francis Marion (6), Sumter County (6), J.F. Shields (5, they put us out in the first ever Final Four in B'ham), and Selma (4) you can tell there is alot of home grown talent in that area. Thats 37 titles! That doesnt count other teams North like South Lamar, others South like Brantley, and A.G. Parrish (now Selma).
