"We didn't have any suspicion that he was doing anything like this," said Dee, UM's athletic director from 1993 to 2008. "He didn't do anything to cause concern."Paul Dee has a few questions to answer. I want to get his spin on all this.
"I know with absolute certainty that we controlled the things we could control," Dee said. "It's disappointing to me that there are allegations, but we know there are going to be kids who do something we ask them not to do. We did as much as we could, but when something bad happens, you feel like you should have done more."
"The only asset he has is this story," Dee said of Shapiro. "Whether there's any basis to it or not, I don't know. I think we have to recognize that we're not dealing with somebody who was just an innocent booster who decided to do some nice things."
