Re: 2013 DT Robert Nkemdiche Update (5/23)

I've seen some talk of him following his brother to whichever school he chooses. I don't know how true it is, though.
No his brother just commited to Ole Miss, but is still waiting for his SAT scores. Originally Denzel never qualified and was scheduled to attend JUCO in the fall. He retook his SATs and improved so much that the NCAA flagged the scores. UGA fans were saying they were a package deal but not according to Robert. Denzel I think was using it to leverage his position by saying wherever he signs Robert will follow, but Robert said he would like to play with his brother and would look at any school he signs with but never stated he would definitely go to the same school. I doubt Robert will end up at Ole Miss.

Here is a link to those others articles I was talking about.

•Denzel via cell from Ole Miss: “We’re definitely going to do a ‘package deal’ because that’s what our mom wants us to do. Ole Miss hasn’t mentioned Robert to me. But wherever I sign, that’s where Robert is probably going to sign.”

•Robert: “I’m thinking about it. Wherever my brother goes, I’m going to check it out. .”

“Denzel still hasn’t qualified, as of yet. He has taken the SAT and the last time he really improved with his score, so much so that it got flagged. I mean, he studied hard and prepared for it and blew it out of the water. The NCAA made him take it again, and we should know his score by the end of this week

After his visit this week to Ole Miss, Georgia Safety/CB Denzel Nkemdiche pulled the trigger for the Rebels and committed.

Ole Miss fans are convinced they have his brother now, but Robert Nkemdiche sounds far from it. It's also a long time until NSD 2013. The younger Nkemdiche will have offers from all over the country. It's rare to see a national recruit end up at a place like Ole Miss, where the coach is on a hot seat.

Ole Miss might have a new coach by then.

Yeah well, even if OM fans think that and even if it does happen I get the sneaky feeling that Nkemdiche will fail to live up to expectations if he has to play for CHN. What's the point of bringing in big time recruits if you have a coach who can't coach them up?

So, if Robert is a upcoming Junior, and his brother is already in JUCO, wouldn't the most time they would have to be together in college 1-2 years? Why commit to a school to be with your brother when it wouldn't be even half of your time at that college?

His brother, Denzel, was headed to JUCO, but made his qualifying score to go to a D-1 school. He was in the 2011 class, so they could play at least 3 years together.

Robert Nkemdiche: The boy who would be king | AJC College Sports Recruiting
•Who “discovered” Robert? Grayson coach Mickey Conn said “Big Rob” first caught his attention when he was in middle school. “When I saw him in the eighth grade, he would return kickoffs and take them all the way back. Just like now, he was the biggest kid on the field. It was unbelievable. He was that big, that athletic and that fast. He’s just always been that way.”

•Nkemdiche hasn’t got caught up in all the hoopla surrounding his recruiting fame — at least not yet. “What is a 5 star?” Nkemdiche asked a reporter. “I mean, I know about a player ranking. But what’s a 5 star? It doesn’t really matter. I just go out there and play football.”

•You may never see Nkemdiche working out at a combine or college camp again. He suffered a “hip sprain” at the April Nike camp in Athens, and missed all of his spring football practices at Grayson. Nkemdiche is undergoing rehab and projects to return to full strength in mid-June. Said Conn, “We’ve got to keep him away from these combines. We all know what Robert can do. We have to remember that Rob is a kid. Going to these things is fun for the kids, and that’s why he did it. But when everybody is calling you out … ‘Hey, I want to try him, I want to try him, I want to try him’ … it can get carried away. He was getting rep after rep after rep after rep after rep after rep after rep — and that’s how he hurt himself. Hopefully we can get him healed up and back out there ready to go.” Robert was devastated by the injury. “It’s disappointing, very disappointing. I wanted to be out there, working hard with my teammates to try to win a state championship. Sitting out is no fun.”

•One noted recruiting analyst said this after watching Robert at Nike: “His only weakness is that he’s too good, too soon.”

Even though the article below is over 3 months old, Nkemdiche still says he is wide open in his recruitment but there is no doubt Bama is among his top choices.

Sophomore Robert Nkemdiche on track to be one of nation's best prospects - ESPN
And it's worked. Yes, Nkemdiche knows he's a special player now, but he is also smart enough to know that doesn't guarantee anything for the future.

"Not trying to sound cocky, but I know I am pretty good and all, but I have things to learn and a lot ahead of me," Nkemdiche said. "I have a lot to learn, especially with technique. This is a big year ahead because I had a good year last season. Teams know who I am and I have to keep building on it. The attention doesn't throw me off. Like it or not, I will not change and it will not change me. You have good days and bad days and you have to work hard and stay humble."

It won't be easy, especially as more people learn about him, more stories are written about him and more schools recruit him. But as of now, he's enjoying the process. He unofficially visited Georgia, Georgia Tech, Alabama and Auburn, but says he's open to everyone. So far, he says, Oregon is the only team he'd like an offer from that has yet to offer.

This kid is a beast. I've seen him play both football and basketball. He towers most OLine men he goes against. I do feel Bama is in the lead from what I've heard around here. It would be a real shame if he followed his brother to Ole Miss.

I saw Robert playing at the Dome today. I didn't know his number when I first got there but basically was able to pick him out after one defensive series. He made his presence known right away. I don't know if he usually plays on offense as well, but he scored Grayson's only TD today. He did have a cast on the lower part of his arm, but it didn't seem to phase him. I would love to have him in crimson.
