Re: 18 LSU Players Sign Witness Testimonies Saying Jefferson Did Nothing Wrong

Well, I am curious. I know, having spent time with friends in Red Stick, that they don't really need a reason to party anywhere in Louisiana (or any reason will do...sunrise, sunset, whatever)....but 19 members of the football team in a bar? Maybe I'm getting a little "sungit" (as my life loves to remind me) in my old age, but that seems like a lot.
And, there could have been more there at the bar, since, by my reckoning, you crowd 18 people around a fight, there's not much room for anyone else to see anything, so I'm guessing these 18 were the only ones who saw anything. That's interesting...

What if 18 Marines have a different opinion and want to do something about it. ;)

I'm presuming these same 18 gave their version to Miles, and yet, JJ is suspended anyway. I find that very interesting...

"Officer, JJ didn't do anything wrong in the bar fight. Every punch he threw landed, every kick connected. He was awesome."

So 18 players are going to basically admit to breaking team rules (after team curfew, and I presume underage drinking for most, if not all) to help get Jefferson off with assault. Not the sharpest tools in the shed down there on the bayou.

Didn't do anything but the DNA that matches the victim's head on JJ's shoe just got there by the wind.

To be honest though I hope he is cleared. Lee is having pretty good games and JJ has never had one. Hopefully JJ can come back and help LSU finish 2nd or 3rd in the SEC West.

Also to clarify something here. The players never said he was not involved in the fight all they said is he did nothing wrong meaning he did initiate it or any of the things that were said. They are defending his participation in the event.

I almost expect him to be cleared November 1st, just in time to meet the Crimson Tide on 11/5......stay tuned. Not skeered in the least tho - bring it on!

Guys, it's simple! If the truth be known, JJ always wanted to be a punter. On the night in question, he was just showing his 18 other friends and teammates his punting technique. Unfortunately for the marine, JJ's punting demonstration resulted in his foot hitting the marine's head. So you see, there was no criminal intent, it was just an accident.

were all 18 supposedly there? how does anyone excuse kicking a dude in the head while he's on the ground when you've got 18 guys backing you up?

problem with that is if he kicked the guy in the head while he was onthe ground, it doesnt matter if the fight was defense, because the kick was assault. There is a fine legal line between protecting yourself and assault and thats basically it. But when football and the yah yahs get involved that line gets blured i guess.

Jefferson is suspended only because he and Johns were charged with felony assault. They were charged by the police based on the testimony of Lowery and his friends. The DNA evidence turned up negative and there are about 20 third-party witnesses that contradict the alleged victims. The DA chose not to prosecute on this flimsy evidence. 90% of bar fights end up with no charges filed. Most of the rest end up with misdemeanor battery charges against all parties in the fight.

This kind of felony battery charge is rare in a bar fight and convictions are rare as well. The DA put it all before the Grand Jury today to avoid appearances of bias. If they indict Jefferson, then it will all go to trial and the truth will come out publicly. If not, they will walk from criminal charges and can be reinstated by Les. Many observers believe that the noisy accusations of the alleged victims' attorney is that he is setting this up for a civil suit against Jefferson and Johns and possibly LSU.

I believe that the DA feels that there is little evidence against the two and that clearly some of the unnamed "witnesses" are lying. If they lie before the Grand Jury, they risk jail, so likely the truth will come out in the Grand Jury testimony, but we will never hear about it. To quote the DA "We want everyone that we've interviewed and have been interviewed by police with knowledge of what went on in the fight to testify under oath and under the potential penalty of perjury."
