In a dream world
Buying me a personal theft deterrent (gun) and was wondering what everyone here carries or has. Ive had training on a glock 22 4th gen 40 cal that most law enforcement officers carry and was thinking of getting my own. Actually have a couple questions...what do you think about Alabama's gun laws and what weapon do you prefer?

Don't know if most people know this but it doesnt take much to get a concealed weapon permit in Alabama. Not only that but as long as you keep your gun in the house or on your property you dont have to have a weapons permit.I personally am for anyone that wants one to have one as long as you and it is registered.Alabama has some of the most "relaxed" laws when it comes to weapon permits,IMO. Which makes it that much easier for criminals to get their hands on weapons.

As far as the Glock 22 I can tell you it is a fine shooting weapon. Hits what you aim at and doesn't malfunction (jam). Relatively cheap at around 547 bucks with 3 15 round clips and load helper. Has a magazine release that can be moved to one side or the other depending on if you are right or left handed.Comes with a lock for the gun case which is handy because it doesnt really have a locking safety. If you have small children the lock will be necessary.Any thoughts?

In case anyone is curious...

I have a Walther P22. I keep it in my office and take it on road trips when I'm traveling without my husband. He keeps a 45 at home and carries it on his person from time to time, depending on where we're going.

I carry a G27 daily. On occasion I substitute a Keltec P3AT if I need to.

As for the graphic posted above - a well-designed, properly fitting holster alleviates about 99% of that stuff...

I've carried one for about 20 years and the CWP with it. Winter, I carry in a shoulder holster and in the summer, in a pancake holser in the small of my back, I prefer the pancake holster though. I carry both a S&W 9mm or a Colt 45 (not at the same time). Silverback has a very important point, training on not just how but when to use it is a MUST in my opinion. I've had military and law enforcement training.

For the benefit of whoever may be reading this and could be confused, The Glock 22 is not .22 caliber, but the Walther P22 is.

Also, owners should teach their children to respect firearms as soon as they are able to.

Used to own a Glock .40 caliber. Bought it while doing some TDY work in Norcross, GA back in the mid-90s, after a spate of home invasions in the neighborhood near where my extended-stay place was located.

Never saw a need for it over the next couple of decades, so I sold it last year.

Keeping a firearm in the house is a smart move, but is problematic under many conditions. If you have family members prone to depression, not a good move (from personal experience). If you have children in the home (regardless of what you teach about gun safety, the reasoning part of their brains isn't fully developed yet), if you have a family member who is going senile.

I have a glock 19, and a ccw permit, but i rarely carry it with me, and when i do, its just in the car. the glock stays locked in the safe. have a shotgun (browning 20 gauge) for home needs. i also have a small ASP that i will carry from time to time if i am running through a sketchy neighborhood. i have had to use it on nasty dogs a couple of times, never on a person.

I don't carry a gun but I have a 38 S&W in the bedroom. I have thought about getting something smaller and compact. I'll still keep the .38 though. My Dad gave me that gun a few years ago. He traded a hunting dog for it back in 1949 when he was only about 17 years old. It's been reblued and looks nice.

I would guess it's a Model 10 with a six inch barrel, they were popular back during WWII besides the Colt .45, carried predominately by officers and flight crews. Load it with Semi Jacketed Hollow Points with +P. More than enough stopping power. My prefered home defense is a 12 gauge pump with 00 or 0 buckshot, less likely to go through the house and into the one next door.

I have a 9mm that I carry at times, but not all the time. There are situations in my business that warrant carrying a firearm and during those times I generally do. When I'm in a customer's home or business I never carry. That presents too big a possibility for an accident or even a misunderstanding. When I'm not working and just out in public I usually don't carry. I keep one in my vehicle though and within easy reach.
