Re: More LSU smack talk

Why must we have threads like this at this point in the season? Last I checked, we're playing Ol' Sis next. Some of y'all are getting your boxers all in a bunch and you have a looooong time yet to wait to see how these two teams match up. Until then, it's just words and they mean a whole lot of nothing. Maybe some of you think it's "fun," but I think it's a waste of emotional energy. I sure hope our team isn't doing what so many of the fans are doing.

Re: More LSU smack talk

The biggest thing I'm worried about is LSU's passing game...they won't run much on us. It seems like our DB's have been giving opposing receivers a lot of space lately, and LSU has the receivers to make them pay. And Dre is still getting beat deep a lot, a Vandy receiver beat him deep and it should've been a TD, but the receiver dropped a very catchable pass. Arkansas was getting their receivers in space a lot against us, but there lack of pass blocking and a running game hurt them badly. LSU doesn't lack those things.

Although I don't understand why people keep saying LSU has a better DL. In every game I've watched we've been getting to the quarterback a lot quicker. I remember against WVU that QB had all day to make those throws. Their cornerbacks are, however, much better. I mean Menzie, Dre, and DMil are great, but not on the level of Claiborne and Matthieu.

Re: More LSU smack talk

LSU has two proven QB's. I hope Bama can blow out Ole Miss and Tennessee. We've got to give P. Sims more experience passing the ball in games instead of just mop-up duty. Sometimes, stuff happens. So, we've got to be ready.
No offense, LSU does not have "two proven QB's." Lee is playing well, much like AJ is, but he is no where near getting the "proven" tag, and as for Jefferson, yes he is proven, he has proven he is a athlete playing the position and not an actual QB. IOW, LSU doesn't have two proven QBs, just one playing well and a second who is more an athlete than a QB.

But you point about having two QB's ready for LSU, I do agree with. I hope we beat the crap out of Ole Miss and UTK so that Phillips Sims can get even more game experience.

I didn't see anything in those comments inflammatory towards Alabama.
Nope. The melodramatic descriptions of these two teams and, in particular, defenses is going to just become more and more prevalent in the next four weeks leading up to the game.

This is heady stuff, folks. These titanic clashes with other juggernauts make me thankful that I wasn't born an Indiana fan.

^^ +1 ^^
This has been and remains my primary concern. Whether it's better pass coverage or just affecting the qb more and faster, it all boils down to the same. It's something that must be addressed before the LSU game.

Nowhere and not going to be. I'm not concerned about the players. What I am saying is for the fans' benefit. It's been a problem in the past around this rivalry and I hope it will be taken to other boards...
Oh, no, no....I was referring to the title of the thread. The player comments didn't sound like smack to me.

But, I DO NOT envy your task coming up the week before the game. Ugh....

This is what fans do! We waste good emotional energy on a whole lot of nothing. What else are we going to do, talk about Ole Miss? That will take about 30 secs.

The LSU game is in the not to distant future. I think it's OK for the fans to have fun with it until then. I'm sure the players are thinking about it to. If for no other reason, they probably have been practicing some on LSU. Players and fans are not robots!

I understand now, AJ. And, no, I don't think the players' comments amount to smack - just confidence, which you'd hope they would have. Given CNS's penchant for holding down player comments, there will be more coming from the LSU side than from ours. I hope our players are not looking ahead, but it's hard to combat with young players. It certainly contributes to "flat" performances, such as the first half of the Vandy game...

Mea Culpa ( I think that is Latin for my fault) for starting this thread. I am normally about the most laid back person you will find but I do become unhinged over my Crimson Tide at times and probably crossed a line or two. I do live in Louisiana and there is a total lack of objective sports writing--everything LSU does is wonderful and our performance against Vandy was dismissed by the local press as lackluster. I just blew a gasket and posted. I do have tremendous respect for the LSU football program but I strongly feel they will not dominate us as the local writers described LSU doing to every opponent via his quote. I should not have titled this thread as more smack talk but titled it more like overconfidence brewing in the bayou. Sorry for any toes I may have stepped on and especially to the respectful LSU posters whose comments I do enjoy reading. Over and out.

I wish we had the support from the local press the way they do. I'll change the title...

Re: More LSU smack talk

I hope they continue with their smack talk. One, it shows lack of class. Two, it gives our guys something to chew on for the next few weeks. I hope by the time the game is over, LSU is this year's champ in planking (like they were in 2009) or the winner of "I have a fake cramp award".

Re: More LSU smack talk

LSU is definitely the one who doesn't need to be looking ahead, considering schedules. However, both teams are very good, especially on the defensive side of the ball. They are looking more similar to each other on the offensive side as well. However, I will give the advantage to Bama because of the O-line and TR. They both have a right to be confident because of their domination, thus far. You all are right about CNS keeping his players quiet and not looking ahead. It's going to be a superb game between the two, but smack needs to be reserved until the week of the game! It could easily go either way.

I have heard very little smack from any LSU players. Sure you may have the occasional player say something but its limited. There is still alot of football left to play before Nov 5 and all the pundits will analyze and over analyze every stat and then some. What I see with this LSU D is alot of natural instinct to gravitate to the ball and force turn-overs. they dont give up. They love playing on the road. They seem to be on a mission from the start of the Oregon game. We have senior QB's who will be used to our advantage and our punter is deadly. Of course LSU fans who wear the purple and gold glasses will smack talk but the same goes for all fan bases. I follow the Tide program because I have family in T-Town and I usually make it up there for games. Any time Bama plays in a bowl game I'm rooting for y'all and most LSU fans I know do the same. Yes this will be one for the ages as these two teams are so evenly matched its scary, and I will be in BDS for the game, its my favorite stadium outside of TS. Cant wait for Nov 5th, Roll Tide, Geaux Tigers

Good post crazy, and your comments are spot on. LSU has always been my second favorite behind Alabama. It should be an SEC classic showdown.

Of course not. The majority of the smack usually comes from the fans, which is true of most every school. That's natural, and I guess they can afford to talk smack, considering their position - in the bleachers, or in front of their TV.

Re: More LSU smack talk

Well I use to pull for LSU and party with them quite a bit until they started the waaaa you stole our coach thing and started hating on Saban. My brother in law nearly got in a fight at one game because the LSU fan in front of him wouldn't stop with the offensive language in front of his kids. Yes every single fan base has those types of fans, it just seems they have more. I guess I'm tired of hearing it at work from this one bayou guy who just won't stop with the constant talk of how we're going to lose on Nov 5th.

There is no reason to come here and talked smack when they can go to Tiger Rant. Every time I go there I feel like I need a shower.
