With all that has been said, I think we have a part of our fan base that forgot what the DuBose, Franny, Shula years were like. Gettin a little too big for their britches with the recent successes.

If you lived through those years, you'll never forget them. But even as bad as they were, we won an SEC Championship and had another 10 win season. Compare that with the the 90's for LSU.

It hasn't been like that here, even win it was bad.
If they are the Bama fans of yesteryear, then they are worse than the Bama fans of yesteryear. Bama fans at least had some history to base their expectations on. LSU fans really only have one year: 2003. In 2007 they freaking lucked out. I know it, and they know it. I, for one, will be happy as long as Les Miles remains at LSU.

What really aggravates me with them is they act like they have been at the top of the SEC for decades on end. In reality they were no better than UK or ol miss in terms of their ability to compete in the SEC until CNS got there and changed the whole structure. What you have now is the structure that CNS built and the discipline is fading with miles at the helm. I for one want him there all the time god forbid they actually get a coach who knows what he is doing they will be hard to beat every year.
The longer miles stays there the more they look and resemble his coaching ability. LA is loaded with talent so its a dangerous thing with a great coach like CNS so here is hoping miles stays there forever

LSU fans are just plain scary. And, yes, I'm grouping them all into the scary category. Shame on me.

Bama fans can be very unrealistic at times - just read some of the posts in this forum sometimes. Most of us aren't that way. Most of us know that we've got it good right now as Bama fans and we know a legend in coaching when we see one. We had one once, we've got another one now. He makes mistakes - he's human. But more times than not, he's a winner.
LSU fans have a small taste of big time winning and don't fully understand how difficult it is. They have a good coach. They should appreciate him, because another one may or may not come their way. And I remember - they DIDN'T appreciate Saban after his 9-3 season. They STILL say things like "Saban can build a program but he can't maintain it." They were mad at him BEFORE he left and have thought ever since that they're the authority on all things Saban. Well, he's proving them wrong. He's at a place now which expects winning, but the majority of the fan base understands winning as well.
They better hold on to Les Miles. He's done a good job for them despite his quirks.
Coach Bryant always talked about the word "Class" for a reason. The last two things in the public eye bothers me and what the nation thinks about us.
Class, that says it all!
Act like you've been there before. Win with class and lose with class.
Most Alabama fans show class and dignity before, during, and after every game.
It is a shame but you don't get to pick your family or your fellow fans, so all you can do is try to set a good example and hope others will follow in your footsteps.
In my opinion most Alabama fans show their class and are embarrassed by those that don't, whereas most LSU fans show their ... and embarrass those that don't.

Those are called bandwagon fans. The ones who during a losing streak will no longer publicly pull for "their team". Though I love my neighbor to death he is a bandwagon LSU fan. After the championship game he said he wouldn't wear anything LSU for quite sometime. He took down his LSU flag and replaced it with a Saints flage (which has since come down). I also know more about the history of LSU than he does. But let LSU beat "your team" and see how in your face he is about it.
I've always enjoyed trips to Baton Rouge. We have typically had a good winning record against them in their stadium. Plus, I haven't had any problems with the fans during my trips there. Given that a few differences between our programs:
1. LSU wants Bama to become their "rival". Presently, LSU is our main competition in the West, but Auburn and Tennessee is our traditional rivals. I don't see that changing anytime soon, no matter what the LSU fan base wants. To me, they are simply a good team we play each year.
2. Bama plays for national championships and views the LSU game as team we have to beat along this path. When LSU beat us this year at home, their mission was over and ours had just begun.
3. LSU doesn't have our rich tradition that has been consistent since the 1930's.
4. LSU is a Alabama wannabe. They have to play up to our standards to play "big boy football", not the other way around.

If you've been around awhile, you know something about the LSU-Alabama game. In fact, you know two things:
1) It is NOT uncommon for the road team to win (indeed that's almost a given)
2) Both sides lose game after game in this series that you wonder how in the world they could lose because they were so superior to the other team except a play or two.
LSU beat Alabama in 1984-86-88-93-2007-11 where when the game was over you wondered how in the world LSU was the winning team. (The 93 game yes LSU outplayed us but they were 25-point underdogs and a number of pundits rank it as the biggest college football upset of the 1990s).
Alabama beat LSU in 1987-98-02 in games that stunned us all. The 1998 game has to be the most bizarre Alabama game I've ever seen in my life. In the first half the LSU kicker did something you couldn't possibly do even if you were TRYING - on 3 kicks he managed to hit the right upright, left upright, and crossbar with kicks that were no good. Even if you AIMED to do that it would take more than 4 total kicks (his other one was good). Bama had one big play in the first 57 minutes of the game (well, two) - a TD bomb from Zow to Quincy Jackson. The other big play, an interception in the end zone, got wasted on blocked FG on that next drive. In the final 3 minutes Alabama scored a TD, hit the 2, recovered an onsides kick and scored another TD. To make it more interesting, they then did an onsides kick (accidentally) that LSU recovered, setting them in range of an easy TD. So, of course, Herb Tyler threw the pick (which probably would be overturned nowadays).
Suffice it to say - the Bama-LSU game is bizarre. Now...having said all of that...
My experience is that LSU fans are illogical on a level that you cannot begin to comprehend. I visited a new one to my family at Christmas. He had enough brains to at least admit that LSU stole one in Tuscaloosa and that he didn't want to play us against because he knew Saban was a good coach and we'd win. (You do gotta respect that he's that in touch with reality).
However.....
Somehow there is this insane notion in LA that when Saban signed up to be their coach that he was making a deal with the Mafia, one he could never get out of. New family member told me that the reason LSU hates Saban is because "he lied" about staying there. Now I'm gonna be honest - I've never seen the video of this. But here's the funnier part - they get mad at Saban for leaving while under contract - and then they go and steal Les Miles, who is a head coach under contract at OSU.
So iow - Saban was supposed to stay but it was ok for them to get Miles. Again, this kind of logic does not make any sense to me.
The 1986 game was the inverse of the 1998 game. Alabama should have won that game about 35-7. Bobby Humphrey fumbled TWICE going into the end zone for TDs that turned into turnovers and no points. IIRC one of LSU's 2 TDs was an INT return deep in Tide territory off Shula. Alabama knocked them all over the field and ran up and down it - but only got 10 points and lost.
The next day I'm in Sunday School with a guy I didn't know was an LSU fan. Rather than admit they essentially stole the game and got outplayed (and hey, we got outplayed in 98 - I'll be the first to admit it shocked me), he came up with this convoluted explanation about how it was "just fair" because LSU "should have won" in 1985. (Hey, it's not our fault their kicker couldn't hit from 24 yards). I hated LSU more starting that year than any other team. More than Auburn, more than Tennessee (of course, most of us probably did not "hate" Tennessee until the Means saga - it was actually a good example of what a rivalry SHOULD be).
Fact is, it's twilight in Baton Rouge and the light is fading fast.
