I guess I'm one of those folks who will just wait for CNS to announce this. It it turns out to be true, I certainly won't be shocked because it's been out there for a while that DC was still very much in the doghouse. I'll still be disappointed because I think the had great potential, just not surprised.

Regarding his father Chris.....heard a Buddy Ryan interview a few years ago and a caller asked why did Buddy/Eagles let Carter go to the Vikings in his prime. "All he does is catch touchdowns."

Buddy finally provided real reason......Chris was associating with a bad crew in Philadelphia area, and quite frankly, the move to Minnesota may have saved Carter's life. Don't know about Duron's issues but hope he "see's the light" also.

Why rush to judgement?

I don't expect an athlete like that--but I expect team players like that. If Julio could do it (when if anyone could be a diva, it was him), then I can expect the same from the "lesser" WRs that come along. More like Julio--less like DJ Hall.
That's a given. Always has been. Unfortunately it is not always that easy to distinguish who's a team player and who's not until they get on the field.

And then it's still difficult sometimes. A guy might put on his "gameface" but be a cancer in the locker room.
I would guess that DC being on or off the team will not impact the scholarship situation at all.
If he's on scholarship, it impacts the situation. He was for the 2011 season since he signed a LOI. I'm not sure that he really has to be this season considering the money his dad made in the NFL along with what he makes now at ESPN and St. Thomas.

Do we know that he signed a LOI? I would assume someone that wasn't academically eligible, would not be on scholarship. I would further assume that someone not behaving properly, who's parents can obviously afford tuition, fees, etc, would not be on scholarship. Of course, we all know the saying about what happens when you ...|u|me.

Yes, he signed a LOI on a visit to Tuscaloosa last year. When he signed, he was on his way to being eligible. His off the field issues have no impact as to his scholarship status.

Actually, he got his grades in order last term. It was something else. However, I hear now that he will get another chance, conditionally. He's expected to go through spring practice. I have a feeling Cris may end up in T-Town also... ;)

Edit: Reggie has now posted it on TI...
I am very relieved over this.

For two reasons, I do believe that he can make a major impact on the football field. It doesn't mean he will, but he can. He saw time on a very good team as a true freshman, and he seems like he will fill a void.

The other, primary reason is because it would be such a waste if he didn't do something with his talent. This kid could still have an NFL career, in the least he can graduate from a great university. I'd like to see that happen for him, because he obviously has been putting in some effort, it would be a shame to let that and his talent go to waste.

My thoughts on DC are already known, but a point about BOL, TideSports and TI - those are reputable sources. I know some of y'all wouldn't believe your own birthday if CNS didn't say it in a press conference, but give Chris Walsh, Chase Goodbread et al a little credit...
I agree they are reputable sources for some things but in our "I'm going to be the one that breaks this thing" even if I don't know all facts is the world we live in but this makes retractions common place. The real point is we should not be making negative comments about a player on the roster based on what someone in the media or on the web is reporting specifically when it is about a sensitive subject like a player being dis-missed from the team IMO.

When there are as many news outlets reporting it, one tends to think the story is true. Some of the mods on here were even saying it was true.

I'm not one for saying negative comments about players in regards to off the field issues. However, I didn't see many negative comments in this thread. Most were to the tune of "can't lose what you never had" because never saw first hand his performance in Crimson. Others, such as Prof, said they hoped he got his act together because something isn't clicking with him. Of the 100+ posts, not many are dogging the Carter family.

I'm not sure if you're taking my comments as negative or not, but they aren't. My comments are simply that there are a lot of guys who've done everything right and they deserve more focus than this continual obsession of a guy who hasn't. As I said before if he ends up on the field I will be his biggest fan. I do believe he probably has an amazing amount of talent and I hope for his sake he gets it together and uses his gifts. But either way we have some players that have been busting their tails to finish high school in good academic standing, get into the university in a timely manner, do their workouts, go to class, learn the play book and do everything else the coaches and school ask without tweeting about it. I think those guys should be the story.

You summed up my thoughts exactly! It has more to do with what other players HAVE DONE rather than what D. Carter hasn't done. The guys that HAVE DONE the work to get on the field are the ones we need to be giving attention to, not this constant attention/obsession to a player (whether it is D. Carter or someone else) who hasn't. This constant attention to whether D. Carter is going to be playing or not almost gives the impression that we as fans feel he is the "make or break" of our season and IMO, that couldn't be further from the truth. We are loaded at talent at almost every position, especially the WR position. I think it is a safe assumption to say we saw enough last season from D. White, K. Bell and Norwood that we're going to be "okay", if not down right dangerous at that position. With or without Carter.

I'm not arguing what a player has done or has not done. There is no arguing that some players don't do things the right way as others have done but not knowing all the facts and giving out a personal judgement based on heresay is a little careless especially when a player is still on the roster.

For the exception of one, maybe two deleted posts in this ever growing thread. The comments regarding people's opinion about Carter have been "in bounds". If we're so concerned about even those comments offending someone then we might as well not even mention Carter and his situation. Which is fine by me. I'd rather talk about players who are on the field....

Can we just lock this then? I think it's just a "running in circles" kind of argument/story/topic, and really benefits no one...Is he playing, is he not? I say we just wait and see what happens and let this rest...

To be honest this whole situation seems weird. It's unlike Coach Saban to be caught off guard with most situations. The Alfy Hill drama being one, but this didn't have the same feel when Carter was ruled inelligible. Saban acted surprised but it did not feel that way.
