I have to say I'm extremely surprised that Upshaw wasn't a top 10-15 pick. His stock was high going into 2011 and he lived up to the hype, put up great numbers and won the BCSNCG MVP. I could tell per Kiper and other talking heads that his stock had dropped some but still really surprising he hasn't gone yet. Someone is going to get a major steal in the latter half of this 1st round.

Edit - Also how does a Boise St LB go ahead of those two?!

surprised at the kid from Boise going so high however teams dont draft by best player. they go with best available at position of need. also the NFL gets into the details with things such as long arms vs short arms etc..so many variable are used

Just dawned on me that we're going to get to see Barron vs. Julio and Barron vs. (hopefully healthy) Ingram twice each year.

And here's to hoping that twice each season Mark can make amends for the 2010 Iron Bowl.

As a Bears fan I am not too pleased with their pick. When a fanbase pretty much collectively says "who" on a draft pick, it can't be good. And I can't believe the Bears thought more of the Boise State LB then either Upshaw or Hightower.

Prof...Why is Hightower and Upshaw projected late in the 1st round? What were the negatives against them?

The only thing holding Wheeden down was his age.Not a bad pick for a shaky franchise that could use some maturity on its sidelines.

Hightower and Upshaw had a combination of injuries and lack of measureables. Hightowermoreso injuries. Upshaw moreso measureables.
