I had no idea the NFL is considered a non-profit organization..How is that even possible..I quit trying to understand & figure out how our Government operates..And the taxpayers are the ones that foots the bill when they build a new NFL stadium & fans are taxed when they go to a NFL game..Crazy..Just freaking CRAZY..

Not sure if it's just too early or if the laws are just that complex to comprehend. Going with the laws being complex.

Call me crazy, but the last I heard the US Senate is in the Legislative Branch of government, while the IRS is in the Executive Branch. With that in mind and to the best of my knowledge, the US Senate has no authority to review the tax exempt status of any organization, regardless of whether it's professional sports, religious or otherwise.

The legislative branch can review and revise the laws that allow/enable the NFL to be classified as a non-profit organization.

if i spend money to go to an NFL game can I write that off as a charitable expense to a nonprofit organization?
No, because your money is in exchange for something of value, namely the right to attend a game. Of course, with some teams, even attending a game isn't worth very much given their quality of play and their results on the field. :)

Yes, I agree that they can review and revise the laws that allow an organization to become a NPO. However that's a far cry from the OP, which was "The U.S. Senate May — And Should — Review The NFL’s Tax-Exempt Status".
If we're going to discus a topic, let's at least be accurate about it.

There is a difference between the league being tax-exempt and the individual teams/owners being tax-exempt. The NFL (i.e. the league) is tax-exempt, which generally makes sense to me. The individual teams/owners are not tax exempt -- they pay taxes on distributed profits or, in the case of the Packers, corporate income.
