If OSU does make it to Pasedena to play the Tide, don't you think Coach Saban will have worked out that all he has to do is stop Braxton Miller from running and that will stop OSU? Miller can't throw consistently and there are no real skill players around him.

OSU is not ready to compete for NC yet and CUM knows this. Similar in talent to ND and we all know how that went. However, they are talented enough to win the Big 10 and go undefeated in that league. Same song and story as last year if this happens since there are 5-6 SEC teams who could beat them.

We may be good enough to go undefeated (may - many losses in our defensive front 7 from last year). We are not ready to compete with the SEC elite for a full 60 minutes. We are simply not deep enough to hang. We are still a few years away from that - but if we face an opponent from any other conference, I like our chances.

I'm no Buckeye fan but it's hardly fair to use the Michigan rivalry game as a comparison. I mean, our two closest games in 2009 were Auburn and Tennessee, who we beat by a combined seven points. Texas' two closest just happened to be THEIR rivals. NOT a coincidence.

Also - Urban won a national title his second year at UF with the toughest schedule in the nation.

Alabama's biggest problem will be getting through the SEC undefeated. I think Louisville, Ohio State and Oregon all have a good chance to go undefeated. The only way the SEC doesn't repeat is if the SEC beats itself up.

Florida State, Louisville and Ohio State are not legitimate threats to beat an SEC team in the championship game. Oregon is the only team that I would worry about losing two in the championship game.

There is a way around that of course, look at Ohio State last year. Undefeated... yet most people know that they would likely have lost to Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Texas A&M, etc... I mean seriously, look at how they played.

For instance, they beat Michigan by 5, at home. Michigan was absolutely demolished by Alabama. Yet, Alabama had one loss, and Ohio St. was undefeated. They beat Michigan St. by a single point, Notre Dame beats them 20-3. I could go on, but they played a really weak schedule, didn't look good doing it, yet most people concede that had they been ineligible, they would have likely been in the championship game instead of the SEC.
So, that's the reality of the situation. They have a cakewalk, the SEC faces a brutal schedule, and it doesn't really matter if the SEC teams are better or not. It's like Boise State, except more people will vote for Ohio State because of who they are.
Exactly. If they had been eligible last year, they would have played Notre Dame, and all of the Yanks would have thought that all was right with the world while those two "great" teams battled it out in an epic contest of what was really a couple of good teams. Both of those teams would have lost three or four games if they played in the SEC. We have been very fortunate the last two years after we lost a late season game. Granted, I think we have had the best team, but we were fortunate to get into the BCSCG. I doubt an SEC team will be able to get in this year unless it is undefeated. Unfortunately, I think Bama, Texas A&M, LSU(?), South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida may all be able to make a run with a few breaks, which makes it very difficult for any of us to go unscathed. Again, though, it will be fun to watch.
I will add this. If the SEC run ends this year, I hope it is because some other team actually beats one of our teams in the championship game and not because an SEC team didn't get in because two teams with lame schedules get in. We shall see.

You don't want to lose in the championship game. Trust me - getting there is no moral victory. Losing that game is painful.

It's far more satisfying to crush the life out of a fan-base that truly believes they will win...
^^This.
Tough call for me whether I'd prefer hammering the Suckeyes or the Ducks. Wouldn't mind whipping the Shortwhorns again . . . Except for the fact it would mean they are actually IN a championship game. :biggrin2:

midwesterners are intolerable and way to mouthy. they need a slap in the face.
Just like folks from everywhere else, some are great and some are jerks. Don't make the mistake of judging a whole section of society so easily.

They are in different divisions though...so I don't think they can play each other in the championship game. Unless the Big 10 doesn't use divisions the same way we do.
All conferences that play a CG do so under the same NCAA rule. This one:

17.9.1.2 (c) Twelve-Member Conference Championship Game. [FBS/FCS] A conference championship game between division champions of a member conference of 12 or more institutions that is divided into two divisions (of six or more institutions each), each of which conducts round-robin, regular-season competition among the members of that division;

I'm still amazed everyone is overlooking the Northwestern game. They play at Northwestern and they are a good, well coached team

Ok I read the article, took a dump then noted the similarities.

1) We did not lose because of Manziel, dual-threat nonsense, blah blah. We lost because of three turnovers and dumb penalties.

2) Assuming a Tide-Buckeye match.....we won't be a week removed from an emotional win at LSU.

3) The assumption either team will be undefeated is rather brazen. Since Ohio St has the longer streak the greater likelihood is their loss but other factors matter.

4) Must be off season.

WITH TIM TEBOW at QB, after pulling ahead of Saban's rebuilding Bama squad in the 4th quarter. The chasm between Braxton Miller and Tebow (the 300th best QB in NFL history) is as big as the distance between Gainesville and Columbus.

I love this post because you are either smarter than any three of us or just finished an actual crack pipe before you posted that. I hope the former! ;)
