Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA (will miss first half vs Rice)

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

After reading who they got and what Aubie did with Cam deal and weak as the Ncaa is, Its over no need of talking about it!

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Well, maybe Johnny "Football" will be held responsible for his actions. About time!!

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

The longer aTm is in the SEC the easier it is to realize why UT is soooo glad little brother left. They are like fish, just stink worse and worse each day! I propose we ship them back to the Big whatever they are and go to a 12 game SEC schedule, everyone plays everyone.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

I just got an ESPN update saying the broker has turned over a tape of Manziel signing and the deal was for 7.5 k. No link yet but that would be bad news if true, for A&M that is.

There's the link but the key is no money changing hands in the video. However, still some splainin to do for Mr. Football.

The problem is they still have no proof of payment. They can have all the video they want of him signing items but they have to prove he received money.

The article says that the broker first tried to sell the video, then declined, but that he showed it to Joe Schad. The article closes, however, by saying that the broker does not intend to cooperate with the NCAA. All of that is a very muddled picture at best, because I'm not sure ESPN actually has possession of the video (as opposed to merely having their employee view it). If ESPN doesn't have the video and the broker doesn't cooperate, it's pretty much all unsupported hearsay, which won't go much of anywhere.

If ESPN does have that video, though, it's going to get very ugly and very fast for Johnny Football. It doesn't show money changing hands, apparently, but the statements he purportedly made on the video make it pretty clear that he knew what he was doing was wrong and that it wasn't the first time he had done it either.

The broker said the videos, approximately nine minutes in length in total, were initially shot only to be used as proof with authenticating company PSA/DNA.

On the videos, which the broker said were recorded without Manziel's knowledge, ESPN heard Manziel say "you never did a signing with me" and that if the broker were to tell anyone, he would refuse to deal with him again in the future. Manziel, who appeared comfortable throughout the video recordings, also said if asked, he would say he had simply been approached by various autograph seekers.

At one point, ESPN heard a broker ask Manziel if he would take additional cash to sign with special inscriptions, but Manziel declined, indicating he had done that before and it led to questions. The video does not show Manziel accepting cash, which the broker alleges happened three times. The broker told ESPN Manziel said he wanted money for new rims for his vehicle.

That's my assessment. The comments he supposedly made on the video certainly make the head in the sand defense pretty difficult. As you say the issue is going to be whether the tape comes to light or we just have Joe Schadd saying what he saw.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Yep IF that video does exist, Manziel has some explaining to do. It's not enough for him to fry but it's pretty damaging...

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

Based on reading the article and the follow-up tweets from Schad, it seems fairly apparent that ESPN does not actually have the video. As such, unless the video surfaces, I don't think this amounts to much of anything. By the broker's own admission, it's a cash transaction, so no paper trail (unless Manziel was dumb enough to deposit it into his bank account shortly thereafter, and it doesn't seem like he was that dumb; in all likelihood he made cash purchases with the money). And if the broker is not cooperating with the NCAA, his statements are essentially useless, because, again, it's all just hearsay to a third-party sportswriter.

If the video turns up, Manziel is in a lot of trouble. If not, this is all wasted virtual trees.

No question that the video exists. Schad himself viewed it, but apparently ESPN refused to buy it as against company policy (which is fairly common in instances like this), so it is definitely out there.

The only question now is whether or not it really gets public or otherwise put before the NCAA enforcement staff. No two ways about it, those statements are absolutely damning if they can be verified.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA

While there still isn't a video of Manziel taking money, those comments he makes in the video are pretty damaging IMO. Is it enough for the NCAA? Hard to say the way they are but this definitely doesn't help his cause especially if the videos become public.

How much do you think we can get the REC to pay this guy for the video? Heck we could get contribution from the other fanbases on A&M's schedule this year lol.
