Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA (will miss first half vs Rice)

Re: Manziel Expected "To be the starting quarterback against Rice"

I thought it looked good. In fact, I suggested it... :D

Big fan of Styx and Dennis Deyoung?:)

Re: Manziel Expected "To be the starting quarterback against Rice"

I think TAMU would probably get something similar to Oregon except in the case where Manziel leads them to a conference and/or national title.

They'll strip those titles so quick that you'd think they work at Sammy's

...and what will that do? They'll still have the benefits of the title. USC was stripped of the title from 2004 and Reggie Bush returned the Heisman but they still celebrate it over there. That's not much of a punishment to me.

Re: Manziel Expected "To be the starting quarterback against Rice"

It would likely happen quick enough where there is an almost immediate stain on their success instead of it being over half a decade following the success.

Can they strip the BCS title? I thought only the BCS could do that...

Re: Manziel Expected "To be the starting quarterback against Rice"

Good point. I imagine it would be similar to what the BCS and Heisman Trust did with USC and Bush.

Re: Manziel Expected "To be the starting quarterback against Rice"

No point in even worrying about the Heisman or BCS trophy - they're winning neither.

Re: Manziel Expected "To be the starting quarterback against Rice"

I don't think TAMU is winning a title but I'm almost certain that Manziel will not win another Heisman. Still, just food for thought...I think they're due for an immediate stain of cheating if they happened to win either or both.

Re: Manziel Expected "To be the starting quarterback against Rice"

Were any of Manziel's signings before he won the Heisman?

It was reported there was the alleged signing for the broker in Bham after the Bama/aTm game, and possibly a signing in a Houston hotel room as well (not sure but I think that was the pic that was floating around?) but also not sure of the timing on that one. There may be others but the rest of what I've heard is only speculation and rumor.

Re: Manziel Expected "To be the starting quarterback against Rice"

So Johnny's Heisman should be vacated and returned and TAMU should vacate their last 3 wins of the year moving them to 8-2, not 11-2.

Re: Manziel Expected "To be the starting quarterback against Rice"

I don't think it will. In the Cam Newton case, there was a "loophole" that needed to be closed. Common sense tells us what happened, but the evidence was not there (proof that money changed hands). All the NCAA had was evidence that Newton's father had shopped him - which was not against the rules at the time.

There is a very clear rule against signing for brokers. The NCAA has to punish Manziel.
Per the bold above....kinda sorta. The NCAA claimed a loophole. But FYI there was a direct SEC bylaw against the exact kind of shopping Cecil did. Per that bylaw, Cam was ineligible to play in the SEC. And as we know...Slive kicked the can down the road to the NCAA.

Re: Manziel Expected "To be the starting quarterback against Rice"

That's the most likely scenario though I doubt TAMU will face much of a punishment after the fact. Just look at what Oregon got.

There's also the change they just sit around and do nothing and close the case after the season and nothing ever really gets resolved.

I`m inclined to believe that it plays out as described in the second paragraph ( a la Cam Newton). Hope I`m wrong, but this kid walks, absolutely no consequences for blatantly thumbing his nose at the NCAA and everybody else. Personally, I question whether or not the NCAA has the wherewithall to carry out a scenario as described by rgw.

HAHAHAHA

In an alternate timeline, Texas A&M head coach Lane Kiffin is telling Johnny Manziel to put on this punter's jersey and keep his head down.

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA (expected to start against Rice)

Loose lips sink ships, as long as nobody talks another university will never be punished. Maybe if a school would just keep paying disgruntled employees after they left......

Re: Johnny Manziel investigated by NCAA (expected to start against Rice)

@billyliucci

Still awaiting final resolution (confirmation from A&M or NCAA) but assuming suspension would involve secondary violation of by-law 12.5.2.2

Ruling would make it pretty convenient and clear-cut if any of other CFB stars with a lot of memorabilia out there are scrutinized

As most predicted, all indications are that Manziel was not found guilty of accepting payment for signature. Obviously a significant note
