My 5 year old started playing soccer. His first game was this weekend but his little team had been practicing for weeks. Our game was Saturday and his team had to show up a half hour early. So as we waited for our game we watched the game before ours on the field we'd be playing on.

This kid gets run into pretty hard and falls to the ground. He's laying on his back and though it doesn't look like an emergency you could tell the kid was hurt. The coaches went over to him and after about a minute of him not getting up his mom goes out on the field to check on him. Keep in mind. These kids are 5-7 years old. Not teenagers. All of a sudden the referee throws her out of the complex. Told her and I can quote this one because we all heard it "WE WILL ABIDE BY THE RULES AND THE RULE IS NO PARENTS ON THE FIELD FOR ANY REASON! YOU MUST LEAVE THE COMPLEX NOW!". Now, keep in mind. I don't know anything about soccer. But is this normal? I would have at least thought he'd let her check on her son then usher her back to the sidelines. Nope, he ejected her immediately from the complex.

And the ejection wasn't overturned upon review?

I'm impressed that your sons team even practices. My daughter's team had a few minutes before the game to learn some of the basic stuff. At that age they usually just point them to a goal and say "Try to kick the ball in that one."

I played soccer as a child for a few years. I broke my arm during my first season of playing. I can't recall if my parents came on the field or not.

Sounds like the complex itself is a little over the top. Probably trying to protect from the parents who live vicariously through their children and argue at every whistle. You incident, though, is fairly bad.

The other odd thing was no one really said anything about it or got upset so I guess that is the norm. I was thinking "Ain't no way I'm getting thrown out of the complex or leaving the complex with my kid laying there on the ground." But she did. I wouldn't have. I foresee me kicked out of at least one or two games this season. LOL!

Well, if one of my grandsons was lying like that after a few minutes on the field, there's not a referee that's going to run me off the field. One of us would get our behind kicked before I'd be leaving any complex. I know there's not a "no targeting" rule like in the NCAA, but there would be some targeting going on and they can go ahead and give me a 15 yard penalty also. But I would not be leaving until I knew he was a okay.

I think that there are a lot of people including that referee that does not have good "common sense". Has Saturday morning soccer refereeing gone to his head? Does he think he's an SEC ref on Saturdays?

I have been to those kind of games 5-7 year olds and my grandson was bending over pulling weeds or looking for ants or something during the game. It's like the action was going on all around him. Seems like he was very excited to be playing soccer at that age.?!

I was an AR a few years ago here in Hartselle. I was required to take the AYSO training and if I remember correctly, that was included, that parents aren't allowed on the field of play. However, I don't know of a single referee that I worked with that would've enforced it in the event of an injury where the player was on the field for any length of time.

It obviously had been practiced before because no one around us got upset with any "Oh my god I can't believe he's making her leave with her son out there hurt." No one got upset. I was floored. No way would I leave. They'd had to call the cops and even still I'm not going anywhere until I find out if my kid is okay or not. When it comes to my kids I'm not above being pepper sprayed and tased.

You must tell us about that when it happens. :)

Sounds like Mr. Referee likes his grand powers. My kids have all played and I've seen parents invited on the field for injuries with kids that age.

All the refs appear to be early 20's college age. This guy needed an adult to get up in his grill. I was a bit taken back that none of the Dad's of the other players didn't step in and say something. This woman's husband wasn't there or she was a single mom. But either way. She left the complex to go stay in the parking lot until the game was over.

Was she hawt? :)

If my kid falls down and skins her knee or whatever, that's part of the game. If she's laying on the ground for a protracted period of time I'm going onto the field and it'll get very ugly for mr. striped shirt if he thinks he's going to impede me.

It wasn't an emergency in a sense where it was obvious an ambulance needed to be called. But the kid was still laying on his back about a minute or so after the coaches got out there. I felt the parent had every right to go out there and ensure everything was fine. But the ref thought otherwise.

The only time my son played soccer was when he was five with AYSO. I don't know anything about the sport, but signed up to be an assistant coach and my wife to be team mom.

We got to the coach's meeting and they handed me a roster with TEAM 1967 at the top, with me and the mrs. as co-head coached. I said I didn't sign up to be a head coach and they said nobody does, so anyone who asks to be an assistant gets the head gig. Luckily, we had a kid on the team who was a soccer prodigy so his dad ran practices and I directed traffic during the games.

They had a strict equal playing time policy, so I took control of that. In the first game, I said I'd rotate people in and out (I think we had two on the bench at all times) whenever the ball went out of bounds. The first time I did that, the other coach screamed at me and said I could only sub at a certain time period. Remember this was a five year old league, not the World Cup.

Luckily, the next game the coach was as clueless as me and said I could sub whenever I wanted to.

Looking forward to the story of Buzzard's ejection.
