Is Bama that good, or is the competition not so good?

The game against LSU should give everyone else besides Bama fans (most fans can't watch every Bama game since some of them coincide with their own team's games) a clearer picture of the nature of your team this year. aTm was another snapshot. As an outsider, from what I've seen, I get the sense that the Bama team is becoming stronger, more focused and is pretty close to forging its identity. But it's fruitless to try to draw any conclusions from games against teams like CSU. LSU should be a good barometer.

I see the slight jab there. ;)

IMHO....I don't see anyone beating Bama this year but if they wind up with either FSU or the Ducks as BCS Championsip opponents - that will be a good game to watch....(unlike last year).

RTR! ;)

Agreed. Notre Dame was not worthy to be in that game. If Lame Kiffin hadn't been coaching USC, USC probably would have won and prevented them from getting in, but then you would have been stuck with a very unimpressive Florida team who couldn't even beat Louisville, not much better.

You know, Notre Dame was worthy to be in that game. They did all was asked of them. Nobody was beating Bama in the game. Not even your Ducks. They would have been just as outclassed as you think Notre Dame was. They did beat Stanford you know, a team your Ducks could not.

I'm not saying we deserved to be there either. The folly against Stanford proved that. But ND got skunked in the 1st quarter. They didn't play like a team that belonged in the championship game.

With you saying they weren't worthy, essentially saying they didn't deserve it, IMO. They were worthy, but they did get skunked like you said.

That (ND 2012) is what happens when A) you are the media darling and go undefeated, and B) Saban has a month to prepare for you. ;) If you are a lucky duck, you will get to see for yourself. Two weeks later, people in Haiti will be wearing your championship t-shirts. :biggrin2:

I normally don't like to get into these type "what if" scenarios but I have to agree with you about if we would have played the Ducks. Simply because of our offensive line. By the admission of a lot of experts who watched last year's Bama team. That may have been one of the (or THE) best offensive lines in college football history. Just simply a dominating OL. From a speed standpoint I think we matched up (as we do this year) very well with them.

So if an undefeated ND,Florida or the Ducks...didn't deserve to be there. Who do you have left? ND did what they needed to do and deserved to be there. We just proved how much better Bama was.

Florida had one loss didn't they? I don't know. Alabama was too fierce of a beast last year for anyone to beat. It's likely they would have done the same to most opponents. But ND's mediocre play was just painful to watch.

I agree, ND was lucky in a lot of their wins like Auburn in 2010.

Like a couple of posts above, I think that LSU is the test. This year's defensive backfield had to be completely rebuilt, in addition to the OL. The OL has come along beautifully. The DBs have played spectacularly at times and, at other times, there have been embarrassing lapses in communication, leaving players wide open. Every DB will get beaten occasionally, just part of the game, however, Mettenberger's playing well and we can't give him wide open receivers. I can't gripe about about Manziel. He creates his own open receivers, with his astounding ability to extend the play - and we were a lot greener for that game - but a decent UT QB (2nd one was much better) could have made us pay for some of our mistakes back there...
I have to agree here. I'm very concerned about the defensive backfield against a QB that can truly throw the ball along with us not having any real pass rush. Even against Tennessee, their QB had all day to throw a lot of the time. We were helped by them not having any decent receivers to catch the ball. Not saying the sky is falling, but I see a glaring weakness here.
