Question: Could Alabama decline Orange Bowl invitation in order to play in Sugar?

The games look the same to me on TV, so I don't care where we play. I just hope it is a "name" team. Not to sound snobby, but I'm going to get more excited about playing Clemson (as an example) rather than Central Florida or Northern Illinois.

I see zero chance of us turning down an Orange Bowl invitation. First, it makes no sense because we will get a chance to play *U again next year, and every year after that. Second, bowl selection committees tend to have very long memories. If you turn down a bowl this year in hopes of going to another, the chances of getting invited to a decent bowl the next year might drop significantly.
I prefer to accept whichever invitation we receive and do our best against our selected opponent for this game. Hopefully our players will have learned a very valuable lesson and not repeat some of the same mistakes that caused us to lose the IB in the first place.
Keeping that in mind, it would be a terrible thing for us to repeat those mistakes, or more, and lose the bowl game also.

Consider this - If Alabama were to get another shot at Auburn in a bowl game (any bowl game), it would give Nick Saban 3-4 weeks to prepare for that game. First, I do not see Alabama losing that game. Second, a resounding win would totally reverse any/all gains from the regular season win. Third, an Alabama loss puts you in no worse shape than you are today, and probably motivates next year's team even more. Finally, The extra time spent preparing for that offense will pay dividends in future games against Auburn, as the offense has not changed one bit since Gus came to college football.

You might argue point number 3, but the rest are all very solid wins that help you in the future. It is the future that matters, not the past.

All that said, I don't see it happening. I think that Mizzou will beat Auburn.

As much as we might like to get revenge it just won't happen. The SEC and AU are already lobbying against vociferously. I see why for little brother but am baffled at the SEC because it could easily overshadow the NCG. Oh well, I just hope their is some way to get the Orange to take Oregon over Clemson.

Coach Bryant, as a result of his standing among college coaches, his dominant personality, and representing the flagship football program called Alabama, was able to have enormous influence behind the scenes in deciding which teams would play in what bowls.

It would not surprise me to learn, years down the road, that Saban had similar clout.

I agree that it would overshadow the BCSCG, but that helps the bowl more than the conference. If Auburn wins the SECCG, the conference will have 2 teams in BCS bowls who will likely destroy their competition.

Oh well, if your Buckeyes take care of business (which I don't think they will ;) ) all of it will fall into place, if not, we also have a clearer picture.

I think that Mizzou is going to beat Auburn before we even take the field.

It's a pickem in my view but I too have Mizzou by three. I may change later but I think Aubie will have a LOT of trouble with Franklin and those big receivers.

They also learned from the Alabama game. They saw just how weak Auburn's pass defense is against teams with a running threat. Mizzou actually prefers to beat teams in the air. And their defense is very disciplined.

This matchup favors Mizzou if they can protect their QB.

Who and where would Bama play if the following scenario plays out?

Auburn absolutely throttles Mizzou in the SECCG
MSU upsets OSU
J. Winston is ruled ineligible on Friday and Duke upsets FSU on Saturday

Very remote possibility, I know, but I have seen some very unlikely scenarios come to pass over the years ;)

If all that happens, the BCSCG will be a replay of the Iron Bowl.
