One thing to remember is that some of the things we said about DJ Fluker last year are the same things we are saying about CyKo now. DJ was a great run blocker but had all kinds of issues with speed rushers. He was a first round draft pick and did very well his rookie season in the NFL. I think CyKo will be the same way. Perhaps he will start out as a right tackle but he can still be a high draft pick and make a lot of money.

It makes me worry about the coaching at that position...
I don't want to go there but.......

I will say this in defense of CyKo, why, Why, WHY did we not give him some help with a TE/HB when it was obvious early on that he was going to struggle with the speed rush? I'm not sure who that falls on but my guess is Nussmeier.

I'm not. Cristobal is very well respected in the coaching circles. You don't lose 3 NFL lineman and not take a hit. CK benefitted greatly by having those 3 on the line with him. CK had problems last year too, they just weren't as magnified because he wasn't the main hog. Go back and watch film from last year and you'll see many of the same problems as this year.

I do question why Coach Nuss didn't give him more help with Striker. My 2 biggest issue with Nuss this year has been the lack of power/counter running plays for more zone runs and the disappearance of the TEs from the offense.

Wondered that myself.
that was one of the most awful games i have seen Bama play in many years, both on offense and defense...

I have been sayting that Marlon Humphrey would have trouble breaking in as a freshman at CB...changed my mind after seeing the current guys look clueless on almost every play.

Bama got beaten soundly at almost every position...the only high point was seeing what Derrick Henry may be able to do in the future.

Man, what a sour note to go out on, but, we have the tools, just need to refit the machine.

Without question he needs to come back for his senior year. Before the Oklahoma game I felt like he needed to come back. After last nights game that should give him all the answers he needs. No way he should even consider leaving this year for the NFL.

Some posts mention the OL coaching. Some mention Nuss's play calling. I'm going with Cristobal. NOTE: I'm not saying to fire him.

Yes, Bama lost Chance, DJ, and Barrett. However, we didn't have the same mentality as years past.

Cristobal runs more of a zone blocking scheme than Bama has in the past. Therefore, Nuss hasn't been able to call some of the run plays he has in the past. Not to mention, TJ and Kenyan don't have the build of Mark or Trent or Eddie. However, Derrick Henry does, and he could have run those counters.

Another reason I believe coaching plays a part: the Philadelphia Eagles. Look at what Stoutland is doing in Philly. They have possibly the best OL in the NFL right now. I mentioned the mentality hasn't been the same. Was that because of the players or Stoutland?

IMO, it would be in C. Kouandjio's best interest to return for another year at the college level. There is not way, IMO, that he can play the LT position in the NFL right now. I agree with another poster that he would probably have to go to the right side just like former Bama lineman A. Smith. This is in no way a negative post about CK, he just needs another year at Alabama. I wish him the very best in whatever decision he makes.

I think you have hit on it...the mentality. This OL never established an identify for themselves this year. Ck and others have made more mental mistakes (false starts) than I can remember for a CNS coached team.

To me, it looks like many of the players have regressed somewhat. At times this season, CK looked worse than his freshman year and BV's blocking has gotten worse as well. Based on the overall OL play this year, I'm leaning toward the absense of Stoutland as a key factor. The offense goes as the OL play goes. Anoher factor seemed to be the lack of variety in our play calling.

As crazy and delusional as it sounds, I said the same thing last night...
Yeah, but if he is fired up to improve next year, you could have an amazing O-Line. He has the ability. If he can't improve, the problem is with the coach - in which case Robinson may not do any better.

Either way, Alabama will be better next year with CK than without him, IMO.

I said before last night's game that I didn't think he was ready for the NFL yet. He may still get drafted in early rounds, but at this point I don't think he's ready for immediate success. Last night solidified that for me.

He definitely did not play his best game. I feel bad for him because no one felt worse about it than CK. I think another year could help him, especially since he'll be able to play with Arie again. There is a risk of injury again. We'll just have to wait and see where the draft projections puts him. Unfortunately, NFL scouts look at size and ability rather than college results. They think they can coach them up.
I don't think his parents would be opposed to keeping him in school. Especially if he has not graduated yet.

I don't think one game will adversely effect his stock but it may make him rethink his preparedness for the NFL. He had a bad game but our staff did little to help him out in the offensive scheme. I doubt most NFL coaches would pass so much when their LT is getting thrashed by an undersized wide-9 tech DE.
