Whether inexperience or coaching, the DB play in 2013 was not what we've seen under Saban. The below came from footballrumormill.com:

Alabama has hired Texas assistant (and former Crimson Tide assistant) Bo Davis to coach defensive line.

Sources tell us to expect even more movement on Nick Saban’s staff. Multiple sources indicate secondary coach Greg Brown is likely to move on. We’re also told there could be one to two other changes.

As in defensive coordinator kind of changes is the word in Southwest Georgia.

It wouldn't surprise to see some more shake up. Purely my opinion, but I think what many of us saw transpire this season and was the center of many, many post game threads has "hit home" to Coach Saban. It probably "hit home" to him before it did to us but you can't make these type changes during a season.

I truly believe Coach Saban is going through what Coach Bryant did when he had to reinvent or make a "keep up with the times" type change. I'm just glad he's choosing to make changes. Many coaches are too prideful and stubborn to do so.

It appeared to me that with the exception of the second half of the LSU game, Coach Saban spent the bulk of the back half of the season with a look of exasperated resignation.

Though we looked good for the most part against lesser teams, this was the only time I thought our team played up to expectations/ability on both sides of the ball at the same time. It was a thing of beauty.

He might be reinventing himself, but I don't think it's reasonable at all to compare what Bear Bryant went through to last season at Alabama. Alabama was 11-2, the period you're talking about with Bear Bryant saw Alabama win 12 games in two years.

Not Saying Alabama was on the cusp on only winning 12 or 14 games in a two year span, but I gather Coach Saban is being proactive to make sure the game doesn't pass him by like it did Coach Bryant (see the 6 win seasons).

I kinda thought DB coach may be an area of change too.

It wasn't to the same degree but similar in that it was a period in that he realized the game was changing and for him to compete he had to change. The 11-2 on paper is misleading. There's a lot that 11-2 doesn't say.

Yeah, like I've said before it wasn't the 11-2 that irked Saban it was how the 2 games were loss.

Yeah, like it might have been a missed kick from 14-0. Alabama had 3 close games the entire year.

My personal take on it is not that Saban is reinventing himself at all, but that he was locked into not making changes he wanted to make, because the stakes were too high (as the attitude here demonstrates, any loss was one too many). Now, he has a little less to lose and more room to do what he wants.

I'm one who doesn't believe we were better than our record indicates. Actually, I believe we were somewhat worse than what our record indicated. We were just fortunate enough to play some very bad offenses and teams along the way.

Re: Looks Like More Coaching Changes Possibly on the Way

I thought field goals were worth three points, not three games.
Alabama only lost two, and we know sloppy play undid the final one. Alabama under Saban has never played sloppy in the BCS or SEC championship game (they were simply outdone in 2008), no reason to believe they would have started this year.

Just look at the FSU/Auburn game, you know darn well Alabama could have won against either. No, this isn't the best Alabama team, but they were still very good, despite the inexperience. Look at who FSU played, look at who Auburn played, who did they beat that Alabama couldn't? Duke?

I'm not saying that this team had no issues, but most elite teams have issues. I just think Alabama fans have gotten things so mixed up in their heads that 11 wins feels like 6 wins. It wasn't, Alabama was still almost in the BCSCG and they darn sure could have won it.

I'm in the same camp as you on this. I initially thought we were holding back/uninspred for the VT game but looking back on the season as a whole, that game was an indication of things to come. VT was not a good team and we won more or less on 2 special teams TDs. The CSU game was another indication that we were not as good as we thought we were. If aTm had any kind of D they probably would have beaten us again this year. The MSU game felt more like a loss than a win. We had the talent to win it all but there was definitely something missing. From the changes that have been made and are still rumored to be made soon at good part of the problem was on the coaching staff. Then we also lacked leadership on both offense and defense. I think AJ and CJ and Vinnie were all good leaders but we needed a few more to step up and seemingly no one did especially at critical moments in games nor on a consistent basis.

I agree. I think the best way to describe it without having to go into a lengthy list of underlying issues is "It was just time to hit reset."

I listened to Bill Belichick be interviewed by Bill Cowher this weekend and BB said the hardest thing is to find different ways to keep delivering the same message. That if you don't the message goes stale and the players don't listen. I think this is a challenge at any level of sports.

Resignation? Seriously??
I think a lot of people are losing their minds on this! We lost 2 games!! Every season has games where the team that wins it all could've lost. Krazy pointed out that we could have very well been 14-0, are y'all saying that that's not true?!? A missed kick in the AU game is what pretty much sealed our fate... and yes, A missed kick! If we would've made 1 we would've been playing FSU instead of OU. I think Krazy is exactly right.... I think there were things Saban wanted to change but couldn't because of the stakes. Have a little faith!! It's amazing how so many people are in an outrage over an 11-2 season!!
Saban will right the ship and we will be back on track!! NO TEAM CAN WIN EVERY YEAR!! Complacency was our worst enemey and now we have something to work on.
