Hmmm?

So that's why he transferred out. Makes sense. Looks like our starter has a good chance to be Coker. I like it.

So what are the specs on Coker???

If he's "almost" as good as Winston he'll be a nice fit for a year or two until Cornwell and Parks and battle it out to see who might get to be the Alabama qb for 2 or 3 years in a row.

Hello everyone, new. Have been told that Tidefans is every bit as good as the pay boards I have subscribed to in the past. Wanted to become a member.

I hope our next quarterback is in the mold of both Greg and AJ as far as smart, managing and clutch, but I would not be surprised if scrambling and improvising are not valued more in the future. Not a change to dual purpose, but the ability to break out of the pocket and either hit a receiver or run for a few yards.

Well not me so much. This is the pro set and Kiffin is all about running it. We need a QB who looks over the read at the line, can see the defense and has the ability to check in and out of plays. The amount of talent that has bought into our passing game deserves a QB who can look off a receiver or two and hit the open man. A QB with the savvy to check down to a running back or H-back, tight end or just have the composure to throw it out of bounds. Easy, easy, to say, hard to duplicate. It's going to take dedication in the film room and repetition in game time experience to be that type of QB at Bama.

As much as I like and respect Blake sims, I just can't see him starting. Yeah everyone brings up auburn being a one diminsional team but u ignore their line was well equipped for that fast offense ours isn't. And we probably have the best receiving core in the country but if we can't get d ball to them what good are they. Yes Henry/yeldon will be a tandem but with a young defense we could b trailing and we would need a pass game to catch up. Look at d ATM game and tell me Blake sims brings us back or the lsu and ATM games in 2012. I love what Blake can do and I appreciate what he has contributed to d last 3 years but bottom line is we need a tom Brady type of qb that can manage the game and could carry d load if need be instead of a Kapernick qbwow me by his feet but is a liability of losing it by trying too much. If coker comes sims might as well transfer if he is dreaming of the nfl unless he would be open to switch positions

Re: It appears Luke Del Rio is leaving / Blake Sims discussion

I know I am in the minority but I do not want Coker to transfer in. I can't really think of any QB transferring from a school where he couldn't get playing time and doing anything substantial, the only guy I can think of is Russell Wilson but he was a starter at the school he left (I don't count guys like Cam Newton that left for other reasons). I know there may be a few others out there but I keep thinking of how Star Jackson feel of the radar, Phillip Sims and even Mitch Mustain also come to mind. Even if he comes in here and lights things up I will never look at him in the same light as a guy that choose Bama, stuck it out and didn't jump ship because of the depth chart. I guess I just have a different take than most but he will always be a nole to me of sorts.

Re: It appears Luke Del Rio is leaving / Blake Sims discussion

It's hard to guess what Blake Sims can do as our QB. All we've seen him do is mop up duty in games that were already won. He might be a totally different QB when he gets all the reps in practice. Heck, he's spent some practice weeks as the scout team QB. That definitely doesn't help him in a game situation. While he was never our starter he has been in the system for more years than any other QB on the roster and I'm betting that experience alone counts for something. I feel very confident about our QB situation, whether is Sims or anyone else.

Re: It appears Luke Del Rio is leaving

This qb talk is fun but lets face the facts. If Coker comes he is our qb.
Based on what? That he almost won a job somewhere else?

If Coker comes he will compete like everyone else. Yes, if he's transferring to Bama it's likely he's not coming to sit on the bench - but he's got to earn it. A year ago everyone was ready to say Bateman is definitely going to be the guy after AJ - sometimes it doesn't work out like you think it will.

Hello Wish, I know the feeling (being in Bama). Anyway, you are certainly entitled to your take. I think you may not understand a few things though. And I will admit I may be mistaken on a couple of these, but...from what I understand, Jacob is a lifelong Bama fan. He backed up AJ at their High School in Mobile. I don't think Bama showed any, or much, interest in initially recruiting him whereas FSU offered him early. At that point the alledged rapist had not entered the picture and his (alledged rapist) Football capabilities, although the potential was known, were not fully appreciated, or available at that time. Jacob was a year ahead of the alledged at that time. It was said that Jacob was only just beaten out of the starting job at Forced Sex University. That may be a couple of other points of interest that may alter your perception of Mr Coker, and as I said, I may be mistaken here. But if I what stated is accurate to some extent, perhaps you may find it in your reasoning to reconsider your take on Mr Coker, and should he actually transfer to Bama, treat him in the same manner in which I believe most Bama fans share and welcome him with open arms and great anticipation.
Also, as a Veteran, thank you for your Service (I am assuming you are honoring our country by serving with our fine Military).

Roll Tide, Roll...A'ight!

Oh for crying out loud. There's not a person on this board who doesn't want what you want - what some of us would like to add to it is a guy with the mobility to move around in the pocket and, if needed, has the speed and bulk to gaina few yards without everyone in the stadium worrying about his ACL. Think Andrew Luck, Aaron Rodgers or even Big Ben - all pocket quarterbacks who are capable of keeping the play alive. How hard is that to understand?

Re: It appears Luke Del Rio is leaving

As fans we can rationalize anything to make us feel better and show being positive supporters and that's fine because every fanbase does it. But sometimes you have to look at things objectively. Everybody seems to want to rally behind Blake and support him which again is being a good fan I suppose. But we all KNOW that LDR was really #2 this past season. Insider after insider and a few mods even relayed that info so let's not all stick our heads in the sand and pretend now that that wasn't really the case. 'LDR was just a walk-on who was #3 and this is no big deal' is just false thinking. If AJ had been injured and we were in dire straits this season to win games by passing that redshirt was getting yanked off LDR so fast the collective fanbases heads would have spun.

LDR was an Elite 11 QB finalist and had D1 scholly offers to other programs yet chose to walk-on here. He was ahead of Blake and all the rest so him leaving is not 'no big deal'. He was going to be the Starter unless Coker Transferred and then beat him out which isn't and wasn't a certain thing. I have no idea why the kid left but it has put us in a bind.

On Blake why is everyone saying how we can run option read running stuff like Oregon and the barn to take advantage of his strengths?? Because I'm telling you that's not CLK's offense. It's going to be Pro-Style with tempo and passes to TE's and RB's mixed in. Blake is really athletic with running abilty but he is not a pocket passer. I like the kid but he doesn't in any shape form or fashion fit what we want to do going forward. His delivery is 'unorthodox' to put it mildly and he is inaccurate on anything but really short easy throws.

I don't know if the Qb will be Bateman, Morris, Cornwell, or Coker(IF he transfers) but it's not going to be Blake. He's out of position as a player. If he is the starting QB then strap in for a Looooonnnnng season. Let's just not bury our heads under the guise of fan support because you know if it plays out like that then a year from now everyone will be saying in hindset 'we all saw that disaster coming but didn't want to admit it'. We do that all the time around here. Dislike if you want but truth is truth. I'll support the QB no matter who it is....even Blake...but I'm also ready to just cheer my team to an 7-5 or 8-4 record if that's the case because I will go in with realistic expectations.
