Re: It appears Luke Del Rio is leaving

Just think how bad Bama will be if one of the guys that couldn't jump Blake starts in 2014. We may as well forfeit the season, right?! We're just doomed no matter what.

Dude, seriously, that's how ridiculous you sound.

I never said we were doomed. You guys are absolutely blowing what I said WAY out of proportion. We lost two games this year with the best QB we've had at Alabama possibly ever. And there is a SIGNIFICANT drop off between AJ and Blake. I have nothing against the guy, but he looked absolutely horrible in the Aday game and the only other experience he has is coming into a game that is already won. So if we lost two games with AJ this year....it is feasible to lose 4 with Blake. Because if he cannot pass the ball and we turn into a run heavy team, it's pretty easy to stop a one dimensional offense. I just can't believe more of y'all can't see that we have to look else where for a QB besides Blake. Here's to hoping Coker comes over from FSU.

You ever see Blake Sims at QB with the 1's? Didn't think so.

Boyd is a really good college QB but he reminds me of slightly better version of Tony Romo....I really don't see what people see in Romo he sux as an NFL QB, just sayin.
I've watched Tajh in person for the last 3 years at Clemson and would not trade him for AJ any day of the week. Make no mistake, Tajh was great for Clemson but we got the best end of that deal.

Heh....only on TF, can you have a 15+ page topic about a third string QB transferring, who's never taken a snap in a college game. :)

I know a true freshman QB starting is highly unlikely, but If there was ever a guy that might have a shot, I think its David Cornwell. This guys seems like a highly motivated, focused player already. Around lunchtime today he talking about about going to the football complex to workout after a class and a little while later tweeted Chris Black asking him to come there with him to catch passes. Chris had a class or something, so he must have found somebody to catch and posted a short video throwing the ball and doing agility drills. It looks like he knee is doing pretty good for it to only be 3 months since surgery. He said he was feeling back his old self.

well, certainly nothing wrong with having an opinion. I tend to agree with some of what you say as well but if Sims is our guy i'm pretty sure our offense would be adjusted to take advantage of his strong point which is running. with those type of offenses (read option) you create so much space, all you have to do in the pass game is hit open Wr's..

No dount about it. I think people are discounting how lethal of an offense we could have with a QB that can like Blake can, with the faster pace, that we already know is on the way. We have the pieces here already (not even counting Dominick Jackson and the incoming freshmen) to have a very good run blocking OL, and with Yeldon, Henry, and Drake in the backfield, there's no reason why we can run the ball very effectively with the threat of Blake running as well.

I'll say this - Nick Marshall's passing game isn't stellar as either, but AU's running game being what it was allowed them to mask that by having him make easy throws and a lot of times making throws to wide open receivers because they were running the ball so well.

No matter what he feels, if he had ACL surgery, then he's not his old self in 3 months. If it were a meniscus trim, then yes...

A lot like our Duron Carter threads. Any more guys out there with famous dads who want to come here and contribute nothing before leaving?

That's cold, man. The kid has potential, and if the Bama QB hadn't been one of Bama's best ever, he might have gotten a chance. I hope, with the money spent, and the time involved, that both LDR and Bama received some benefits in this one year. I don't know why he's leaving, no one on this board knows why for sure (plenty of speculation though), but I am eagerly awaiting the Spring to see what unfolds next and LDR was one of my major points of interest. But at the least, I do give the kid credit for at least trying, unlike the other party mentioned. And no one could ever figure out what was going on with him (and many also thought that he could contribute). I just don't think it's a good comparison of the two that tried and left.:cheers2: on TideFans.com

Re: It appears Luke Del Rio is leaving

He did seem to give a lot of effort to go from non-scholarship to (as was rumored) third string ahead of highly touted recruits who'd been here longer. I'm just disappointed when someone up and leaves when it looks as if they will be moving into a prominent role. I wasn't trying to bash him or compare him to Carter, I just don't understand why he'd leave after just one year, though I have a theory, but it would just be speculation on my part.

But we have plenty of good QBs left in the stable so I'm not climbing out on the ledge quite yet.

You've got the right! Believe me, I am far from the ledge. We've seen some players leave and not feel any issues at all about it, but to lose one with so much potential and talent disturbs me somewhat. Some have expressed some negative feelings about CLK, I may have jumped on that pile and expressed some negative feelings in the past, I don't remember. I guess mainly because he was the HC at UTn was enough of a reason for my dislike. And a number of fans expressed their belief that CLK's sucesses was a product of his Dad's participation, but first and foremost...UTn! That being said, many believe, that as a OC, he can produce and develop a highly effective offense. This is what I want to see. I want to see the talent that CNS has assembled unleashed! In whatever form of offense that CLK can put on the Gridiron. And whether he does it with Sims, Bateman, Cornwell, Coker, etc., or the Waterboy, it doesn't matter to me. The RB's, Receivers, the entire team, that is Bama, is good enough to enable a 'game manager' to take them to the top, As long as they stop reading their PRESS CLIPPINGS and get involved in the 'Process'! I just hate this down time!

Re: It appears Luke Del Rio is leaving

Some of the arguments I'm hearing, and why they don't make sense...

"If we lost two games with AJ, then we're going to lose 4 without him" - Says the guys who watched us win 10 games with John Parker Wilson, and win 24 games over two years with Greg McElroy...neither of who are on AJ's level. It isn't as cut and dry as that. Ask Peyton manning how many NC he won...waiting...still waiting. Oh right, zero. Now, turn around and ask Tee Martin how many he won. Oh, there it is...

"Blake can only throw 5 yards!"
- Well obviously you get to watch practice or something, because I have yet to see him have a real opportunity to show what he can do. No A-Day doesn't count. We played 6 QB's this past A-Day, there is limited data to support your argument. However, even if he can only throw short quick passes, you do realize that is the staple of the West Coast offense (which is in turn a huge component in the "pro style" we run). Screens, slants, hitch routes, quick ins/outs, curls, drags...you can throw those all game long and win...I promise.

"We can't be one dimensional!" - You mean like the SEC champs? Tre Mason is still running on someone...

"Blake can't go out an win us games!"
- While this is another one that can't be substantiated, I'll take that side for a moment. Can Blake go out and win us games? Who knows... however, he doesn't HAVE to really. What are Saban QB's noted for? Being game managers. What does that mean? Don't do anything to put the team in a bad position. So while he isn't asked to win games, he'll be asked to not lose them. That means making smart safe throws, not turning the ball over, and limiting mistakes as much as possible. I'm REALLY not worried about that. Unless he suddenly decides to pass 40 times a game, I think we're going to be okay.

Now, here are a few reason that are acceptable to be worried.

The second year in a row, we are losing two starting offensive linemen.

We still have no settled issues in the secondary, and we are losing Belue, HaHa, and Vinnie.

Special teams play is still shaky at best, and that can jump up and bite you.

Gus Malzahn has lead to the demise of everything we know to be true!

You come across as the type of guy who thinks 'Team A beat Team B and Team B beat Team C, therefore Team A > Team C'...

Not to mention your absolutism is somewhat silly - CNS has forgotten more about football than you will ever know, so chillax and let's see what happens.

And FYI you're very, very close to treading across the line of bashing a player, so settle down.

Exactly. He's not going to be required to throw deep balls down the field.

This is where Blake's running ability comes into play. As we've seen with our own defense, mobile QBs cause defenses to spread out more to cover the edge. Yeldon, Drake, Henry, Tenpenny, Fowler and Jones have to love that because the middle will be open. Only about three to five zone-read runs by Blake a game will keep the defense honest. That will be enough.

I'm not sure, Matt. Have you seen how mad Coach Saban gets at Blake for some decisions? I haven't seen him get that mad at QB since the 2010 Mississippi State game to that gun-slinging QB.;)

Now, here are a few reason that are acceptable to be worried.

Again, this is where Blake's mobility helps. If gets pressured, he can escape and gain a few yards.
