Ms. fundytide and I are going to our first ever game (Bama vs. MSU on November 15th). We're flying Halifax- Toronto- Atlanta and driving Atlanta to Hoover where we will be staying. All this was based on the great advice and insights of the good people here on TideFans and special thanks to Boo Radley who helped us immensely with tickets.

Rush: If you drive from Ottawa to Pearson and fly out of there, you should have lots of good and relatively affordable flight options to Atlanta, Nashville and Birmingham. I understand that the drive from Atlanta airport to Hoover is under 3 hours which is just a quick jaunt by Atlantic Canada standards.
Under 3 hours is a best case scenario

which does not count for Atlanta Traffic, idiots and incidents on I-20 and the never ending I-20 construction projects, please make sure you have extra time built in

I live about 30 miles east of B'ham. I fly out of BHM and ATL regularly. I make the decision based on cost. If it's a business day trip, BHM. If a family vacation, ATL is usually the way to go.

Camp Creek from the airport to I20 is a nice way to go. It sure is getting developed though. It used to be a drive through the countryside...not so much anymore.

I20 is now clear Pell City to B'ham. I can't remember if it's clear Pell City to the GA line. I think it is though. I last drove it early July while heading to the ATL airport :) I believe it's once you get on the GA side that construction picks back up again.

Another vote for Birmingham, although Nashville is not a bad drive at all from Ttown. I would definitely check BNA to see if you can get a better flight/better price.

Your efforts at cross-cultural communication is noticed and appreciated.
Bham is not a bad choice.
Of course, with a slightly longer drive is tolerable, Atlanta might eliminate a flight change. Atlanta-Hartsfield is not that far away. Fare might be lower as well.
Enjoy.
Hilarious, Tidewater!!

I firmly believe it was an accident of birth that I am mired up here, and that God had, in fact, intended for me to be a Southerner...

So I adopt as much of the jargon, and as many of the Southern ways, as possible...

I just hired a new law clerk, and had her pledge allegiance to the Crimson Tide as part of the hiring process.

And, at my "suggestion", she now sports the Script A on each of her ring fingers, as of the last time she had her nails done...

I'm doing my part to ensure that people up here understand that this is serious business...

most of the major construction is finished i think. the biggest problem is where it drops to two lanes in between talledega and atlanta. if there is heavy traffic, those areas get crazy. it needs to be 3 lane the whole way and it wouldn't be a bad drive

I wish the University could do some little something extra for a fan making his first trip to Tuscaloosa from Canada to see the Tide play.
Very good of you to say, Chukker...

I gotta tell ya, the reaction I got from fellow Bama fans at the Capital One Bowl in Jan 2011 - when they found out that they had a dedicated fan up in Canada - is something I will never forget...

I'm actually looking into a Graduate Certificate Program - and possibly even a Master's - via something called "Bama by Distance"...

We are flying down for homecoming. Flying into Orlando, staying 5 nights, driving up to T town and driving to Atlanta the next day to fly home. It will be my 3 year old sons first Bama game.

Birmingham easily. You would have a very short drive and the airport is VERY EASY to get in and out of, not to mention jet lag will hit and you are not going to want to drive in from Atlanta.

If it was me making your same flight, I'd pick Birmingham easily.

You do not want to drive from Atlanta to T town or from Nashville, or from Memphis unless you have to or want to see some sights. I would fly into Jackson Ms if Bham didn't work out. It is only a three hour drive and easiest drive there is traffic wise. Sometimes American has flights into Jackson at discounted rates; can always check. But Bham is way I would go.

I hope you enjoy the game. I;ve got a lot of family in Dundas, Missisauga (Sp?) and Toronto. Depending on where in Ontario you live, you could also fly from Detroit or Buffalo as well as Toronto airport.

I fly into and out of BHM frequently. It is the most convenient airport to Tuscaloosa. I live on the east side of Tuscaloosa and I can be door-to-door to BHM in 45 minutes without hurrying. No one has mentioned GTR though. That's a smaller airport that serves Starkville, Columbus and West Point, MS. It is about 80 miles from Tuscaloosa down Hwy 82.

I would avoid the drive from Memphis like the plague. The route from MEM to Tuscaloosa is down US78/future-I-22 to US45. You will experience the joy of 30-40 minutes to get out of Memphis just to get across the MS border and onto the controlled-access highway portion of US78. I make that drive frequently for work, and it truly, deeply sucks.

Fly into bhm and driving to T Town go I-20 east towards Atlanta then get on I-459 to Tuscaloosa, that will keep you from going thru down town Birmingham.
Continuing that thought, several hotel/dining choices at the US 280 E exit off I-459. Nice Marriott and a Hilton, several others. Depending on volume of game day traffic, you are about 1.5 hr drive time to T-town from there. Have a great trip and RTR!
