LSU in Contact with Alabama DC Kirby Smart (Update - Kevin Steele is new LSU DC)

This is a very strange hire for LSU. Great recruiter, but this looks like a panic hire more than anything else. Were they striking out and desperate to get someone in before NSD?

From a recruiting standpoint, good hire for LSU.

From a coaching standpoint, a bit of a head scratcher. Not that hes a bad coach, but his defenses at Baylor and Clemson never impressed me and I would think LSU could lure a bigger name.

Saw LSU also hired Coach O for the DL. With O and Steele, Les looks to be doing whatever he can to keep the talent in-state rather than making its way up to Tuscaloosa.

I think that's exactly what happened - the dead period begins tomorrow (the 15th) - I think they knew they had to have someone in place before then and weren't finding people interested based on the state of the program. Support is starting to fail for Les and it's not clear that he has the ability to get them back on top...

If anyone dig deeper and look at why he got fired at Clemson, they would probably find that he was a nervouswreck, wasn't great with the players, forever always screaming and He doesn't manage mulit-tasks extremely well... Every job he had, He was either " encouraged to go" or fired.... His performance on the field as DC and HC leaves lot to be desired. His work with LBs this year, I wasn't really impressed. There's a reason why LSU Fans and folks surrounding the LSU program needs to be concerned... Having Ed Oregon on LSU Stff doesn't really help either. Both are great recuiter, but put those two together.......

LSU's staff is starting to potentially remind me of the Dubose staffs in his final years. Sacrificing x's-and-o's for recruiting moxie, lots of divas, differing agendas, etc.

Not me. Coach O's defensive line was horrific at USC and was one of the main reasons Coach Kiffin got fired.
USC scored a ton of points under Kiffin, they just couldn't stop anybody.
