With this mentality CNS would not be here. If we would have moved on and hired the lower tier guys we would have ended up with Jim Grobe, Paul Johnson or Who knows who else. I seriously believe Marshall is the right man for the job and I believe he will take it.

Btw Let's not put Shaka Smart in the lower tier category. To me he would be a home run hire as well!

I concur. IF we can't get Marshall, Smart would be a "smart" choice. I just had to say that. ;)

Hilarious!! You compare Alabama Football with Alabama Basketball???????????? The two are TOTALLY different. The Alabama football brand has always been elite. To compare the ease of getting Saban in football to getting a name like Marshall in Basketball is silly.
Marshall has it made at WSU. He is almost a lock to win his conference every year and enter into March Madness with a high seed. In the SEC, he would be third or fourth best on a yearly basis. Why would he want that?

Your mentality has no logic whatsoever in the real world. Sorry, the truth sometimes hurts.

Are you prepared to eat crow when we do hire one. Marshall or Smart. Nobody is saying we are hiring Coach K or Roy Williams. Marshall was prepared to take the Mizzou job last year had they not low-balled the offer. Because of the make up of the power 5 conferences being able to afford full cost of attendance scholarships things are about to change. It's going to be tougher now if you aren't in a power 5. Too many people act like Bama Basketball is the equivalent of Vanderbilt football. This is kind of ridiculous really.

I would not want to live in your world then. Nothing wrong with aiming high and we do have a lot to offer. Some of you act like our basketball program is the Vandy of football.

It's called an analogy that I was hoping some of the "Football only" fans will understand.

How about joining a Bball game thread sometime before you start downing us that really believe we are getting a top tier coach (Which I actually believe Marshall is coming). He is graduating most of his team this year. He will have to rebuild anyway, so he might as well rebuild doubling his salary.

If you pay attention to even what Cecil Hurt is saying it look like he believes it's happening based on his tweets.

Do I have to post in a silly gameday thread to be a real Alabama Basketball fan? I went to one game and watched and listened to every game we played last season. I would love to have a top tier coach come, and if Battle lands Marshall, I would GLADLY eat crow "Mike."

Bottom line, I apologize if I offended Mike. If we land Marshall, I will be the first one to say I was wrong and would be very happy over it.
 
I may be old fashioned (forget may be, I am) but if we have to "out bid" the competitin for some coach, then he isn't the right one. If Marshall is hell bent to stay at WSU, then let him stay. We need a coach who wants to build a program to rival CNS. I have to believe there's someone out there who wants to do that.

I don't know if he'll ever be an Izzo and that was not my point at all. My point is we'd have the 6th highest salary in all college basketball.

The athletic administration is doing everything they can to make this the hire that put Alabama basketball back on the map and sending a clear message to the fans that basketball is important. You could not say that 2 weeks ago when we were going to keep a coach who by all accounts had packed it in.

The only hesitation I think Marshall will have is co-existing with A big persona like Saban. Hopefully he is secure enough to understand that they can both be great independent of one another. Football will always be the lead dog here, but there is absolutely no reason basketball can't be successful as well. If we went to couple of tourneys in a row and managed to win a few games Coleman would be rocking with students. Early in Grant's tenure we gave him a standing O every time he walked on the floor and there often 4000 students there with some being turned away so don't tell me there is no interest.
