New coach search...

Offer Michael White $1.4 million with a lot of incentives and see what happens. Give him raises if he does well. He could do well here.

If those are the choices......I want pastner.....he can recruit with the best of them
No doubt Pastner is an excellent recruiter, but his talent has underachieved greatly at Memphis. Not to mention a revolving door of suspensions, transfers, and players badmouthing the coach on social media...not a good thing. He may be a year or two from being shown the door at Memphis. I think he'd be a risky pick.

It's interesting, battles statement says he wants a "proven" head coach with "impressive credentials ".....who fits that criteria? I don't think either pitino or prohm fit that

Did I read correctly that Wisconsin Coach Bo Ryan only makes about 2 million per year? If Marshall is worth 4 million then Ryan should be worth 8 mill. Remember that winning in the major conferences is infinitely harder than mid majors.

Some have said Shaka doesn't appear to be one of Battles' targets. If he is a target, I think Battle should make a heavy pitch to him ASAP.

@Gil_Brandt Only thing holding up a Shaka-Texas marriage, I'm told, is buyout in Smart's VCU contract. Potentially as much as $750k

How many coaches calling their agents today when they found out what we were offering for Marshall? We reset the bar for coaches pay without actually hiring a coach.

Again with the power 5 conference money floating around these days, we should never have to compete with Podunk U for a coach. We should be able to put enough dough on the table they accept without reservation. I don't blame Battle for shooting for the stars, he just gave him too much time to mull over the decision. I don't think Marshall was truly negotiating on good faith. I know bad faith is hard to prove, but I almost wish we'd pursue it. I know we can't, but I do think he used us to leverage UT and WSU.

This why you use a search firm (starting many weeks sooner) to feel out any potential candidates. You find out what circumstances they will move for, and which ones it is better not to inquire about.

Of course, the only caveat.............you have to decide weeks sooner a change has to be made.

Exactly. Like I said earlier, this thing was botched weeeeeks ago when BB had decided on retaining xCAG. He should have been fired last year. At the minimum the decision to can him should have been easily made into this season and the behind the doors search could have begun. This plan should have been able to hit the ground running the minute after Grant was let go. BB was just in CYA mode and now seemingly is in herding cats mode. I hope it is just perception but like they say...sometimes perception is reality.

And this is why I said I wanted Battle to make a change only if he had a plan. Doesn't appear he had a plan other than Gregg Marshall.

Texas doesn't want to pay a $750,000 buyout for a guy they reportedly offered $3 million a year to. Someone please explain to me why Texas fans want to be arrogant?

If his criteria is a proven winning coach their a dime a dozen. They won't be offered the 4 million per though. No way do Miller and Prohm receive that. No way. Sean Miller maybe but I'm pretty sure the UofA he is at is a little better bball spot than our UofA.

And no on Pastner. There are Memphis folks who would gladly help him pack right now if they could dump him.

Besides Smart, Miller has the most impressive resume from our "list" that's being tossed around.

From al.com:
Dayton was the belle of the ball in 2014 as the Flyers advanced to the Round of Eight as an 11-seed. It took down Power-5 programs Ohio State, Syracuse and Stanford before falling to No. 1 seed Florida in a Final Four bid.

The Flyers won two games in this NCAA Tournament before running out of gas against Oklahoma in the Round of 32. Dayton also scored wins over Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Georgia Tech this season.

To echo what WMack said earlier, we'll get a good coach. I applaud Battle for almost pulling it off. Time to move on. A Miller, Smart, or a coach on their level is still an upgrade. Not sold on Pitino, Prohm, etc, yet.
