The Duggar story

So Selma no idea why this is being spun as 14 year old with 18 year old. In one instance he was 15 and the victim was 5, five not a freshman to his senior (14 year old with an 18yo) but a Freshman with a Kindergartener

I have kids, if my boy did this at 15 he would be dealt with instantly. You realize that in the 16months that these two deluded idiots did essentially nothing that Little Josh was still touching his sisters, right?

but the liberals just sit by while the gays get away with everything, so something

It isn't. The allegation is rape and by the law and all that stuff. My point being simply that a lot of the "this is against the law" stuff and "he ought to go to jail" is being overblown.

True enough - repugnant. And yet some here want to hold him to an ADULT standard, right? (Not saying you do, Jon, but all the screeching a couple of pages ago was ludicrous).

Wanna treat him like he's 18, right? Again - this doesn't make anything Josh Duggar did ok or not a big deal.

I have kids, if my boy did this at 15 he would be dealt with instantly.

Whoever said to not deal with it? Nobody. Another straw man.

Are you saying you'd call the law?

Not only do I doubt that but you don't know what you would do any more than any of the rest of us knows. THIS is what a lot of the heartburn is about. "He didn't call the law." Well, none of you would, either, and don't pretend otherwise. The pontificating self-appointed moralists - ironically most of them in this case NOT Christian - screaming bloody murder about "he didn't call the law the FIRST time" and they wouldn't have, either.

I have no problem if someone wants to say the Daddy mishandled the situation or handled it inadquately. True enough but some of the criticism he's getting insinuates the people criticizing him would have acted differently. (We'll set aside the ridiculous notion that Daddy Duggar was somehow supposed to know that the cop he told this to was into kiddie porn).

He DID deal with it, Jon - POORLY admittedly. No argument there.

You realize that in the 16months that these two deluded idiots did essentially nothing that Little Josh was still touching his sisters, right?

So we've gone from rape to touching now? And let's spare me the "how dare you suggest it's (touching) okay" nonsense, too.

Was it handled poorly? Absolutely. But MUCH of it has been way overblown as BiB said. And at this point I'm done with this thread since suggestions I would somehow advocate or sympathize with Josh Duggar are ridiculous and some folks need to examine themselves with the same enema probe they want to point at others. I try to do that even though I fail at it too.

A 17 year old with a 13 year old is not right and I have no problem with a prosecution there. Why does it matter if they are gay or not in your other scenario? A crime is a crime.

Turing in your child for molesting other children is what is needed. He needed to get proper help and not go to one of their religious centers that just made him do hard labor. It was more of just getting him out of the house..rather than getting him the help he needed.

I don't necessarily think jail time was really needed, but he needed counseling by a licensed professional that deals with these kind of things.

What message does this send to victims of similar situations? It is ok because he was 14? You would tell your daughters that?

It's interesting that a child going through puberty and having a natural curiosity and even urges he may not have fully understood is in need of counseling. Yet we also have those, maybe even the same ones crying out that Josh needed professional counseling, who are saying that Jenner's urges are natural and not an illness in need of treatment. Curious dichotomy in my opinion.

Neither "disorder" is really receptive to "treatment." I know of no reputable studies which indicate the contrary...

Yes, because fondling underage girls is exactly like being transgender.

Just so we're clear - I actually AGREE with you:
a) something besides the labor camp (or whatever) should have been done
b) jail time at that age would be excessive prosecution
c) it could have been handled better.

If I'm reading you correctly, you and I basically agree on these points regarding this with the Duggars.

Exactly, it should have been handled better.

This is nothing like Jenner, no crime was committed like with Josh. And IMHO, being transgender is not an illness. It is just who they are. So this doesn't even compare.

I was not making a legal comparison. And, is your conclusion (i.e. being attracted to immature humans not being an illness) scientifically based? It's curious what is deemed an illness and what is not.

I don't call being attracted to immature humans an illness but a perversion.

Why are so many saying professional counseling was needed? I agree that it took Daddy Duggar too long to react but, once they did react, the steps they took seemed to take care of the problem. According to the reports we have these were the only incidents so, unless more info comes out in the future, it appears that once it was taken seriously, it was handle sufficiently to stop the acts from reoccurring.

What more could professional counseling have done? Not everything requires counseling, sometimes parents can handle it themselves, which appears to be the case here even if they were very slow to react.

I agree with Selma, I have no idea how I would handle something like this if it was my son. I also agree that I probably wouldn't call in law enforcement, not at first and not unless it became seriously necessary.
