MN cops kill man trying to get his ID out

I agree with you as well. I think this particular police officer over reacted and as a result he killed an innocent man. From the initial reports it appears the driver did everything right, if the girl friend is telling the truth. It's too bad the police officer didn't have a camera on him.

i think the girlfriend was the driver and he was the passenger

Y'all should have just beat the hell out of him. I think you would have had 30 eye witnesses who would have said you felt threatened and were within your right. ;)

I have no doubt that he could have taken either me or Bailey alone. He was bigger, meaner and probably better trained in combat. Together, I'm pretty sure we could have done it.

I knew the owner of the gym really well. A really good guy. They were always closed on holidays, but he was always there at least part of the day. He'd let 5 or 6 of us know when he was going to be there so we could come work out if we wanted to. After this happened, I told him about it and that he needed to kick the guy out before something seriously bad happened and he got sued. He agreed and banned the guy. He said he did NOT take it well.

I spoke to somebody with the city (Homewood) and let them know about the incident with the woman and his ticket threat to me. I never heard back about it, but I never got any tickets, either. So I got that going for me. Which is nice.

I did the same thing with our school district. I've never seen the dude around the school since then.

And I'm saying I think this citizen upheld his responsibilities, announced he was a licensed concealed weapons carrier and died because of it. First blush, the cop screwed up. I may change my opinion on this one as more info is reported, but this one looks really bad on the surface.

I watched an expanded video the girlfriend shot and in it there was a part when she said (paraphrasing)......."my boyfriend told the cop he had a gun and was reaching into his pocket.....the cop told him not to move.....and then as he was moving his arm upwards....the cop shot him."

So that could be the explanation on why the cop fired his weapon.

Again...I am not defending the cop's actions. Just wondering how it all went down...

If that's the case then yes, it gets more "complicated" shall we say.

Of course, this needs a thorough investigation, but even then, it may come down to "he said... She said".

Not to absolve anyone of blame, but for everyone's safety, always tell the officer where your weapon is, then wait for the officer to tell you what he wants you to do next. For Gods sake, if they say Stop!... Immediately stop whatever you are doing.

Maybe the driver did just what he should have done, but I'm not sure we have all the facts, yet. None of you are, either. I hope the complete truth is known and justice is served.

Good for you for reporting the guy to the gym owner. Nobody (no matter what they do for a living) should be threatening other gym patrons.

A few weeks ago I was getting on the interstate in Collinsville, Alabama. (I-59, exit 205). Suddenly behind me I saw a cop car going very fast with his lights on. I changed lanes to get out of his way and he moved behind me. So I pulled over as it was clear he was after me. He approached my car and he had his hand near his weapon but did not take it out. He asked for my license and registration. I had my hands on the steering wheel and got my wallet out of my back pocket and said my registration was in the console between the seats. I gave it to him and he asked if he knew why he pulled me over. I said I did not and he said I was speeding through town and he had been following me with his lights on. I honestly never saw him until I was on the interstate. He calmed down a bit (I guess after he found out I had no record, warrants and the car belonged to me) and wrote me a ticket.

I shuddered later thinking what might have happened if I had not moved slowly and announced my moves ahead of time or if I had been black.

Unless the guy in Minnesota was driving a car shipped from England, the video got flipped somehow. I don't think Bazza was defending the cop's actions, he was just saying it is wise to move slowly. Since we don't have any video prior to the shooting, it is impossible to judge exactly what happened. Yes he said he had a (registered) gun, but that is just what the girlfriend was saying after the shooting.

Dear United States, YOUR Police System and those who are not Black in America,

I came home today once again to tell my 13 year old black son about yet another death by the hands of the cops – another death of another black person. I could barely get the words out without crying but this couldn’t be sugar coated from him like I normally sweeten other information I feed him. So, let me tell you what a black single mother had to tell her son today or pretty much every time the need strikes, which is often. I had to tell my 13 year old young black son how to not get killed in these streets by those sent out to protect us.

The first thing is the reminder that although he has white friends, he needs to remember that: “You are not your white friends!!! If you are with them and you all get stopped by the cops for any reason know that you are not them, you cannot say what they say or act how they act. There is a high chance the police may single you out as the trouble maker whether you had anything to do with it so be prepared. Remember to keep your hands out of your pockets; if you are holding your phone drop it and put your hands up or out in front of you where they can be visibly seen free of anything by the cops. If they ask you any questions, answer them with a calm voice, NEVER yell. Tell them your name, age, address, mother’s name and phone number. Know that you are under the age of 16 which means you are not to be questioned without a legal guardian so with that knowledge, give them your mother’s name and phone number again. If they feel the need to pat you down, assume the position I’ve taught you and let them pat you down but be quiet while doing so. Once they have met their goal of whatever the hell it was, if you are not arrested you wait until they have left the area completely then call me. If they arrest you, put your hands up in the air to signal your surrender then let them guide your hands into the cuffs and put you into the police car. You are to remain silent the entire ride to the station – don’t even be angry because there is no need for it especially if you are innocent. Once in the station you give them your mother’s name and number again and inform them that at your age you cannot be questioned without a guardian and/or legal representation. No matter what lies they fill your head with to scare you, know that none of their lies are above the law and the law is what I’ve taught you so do not fear their lies instead give them your mother’s name and phone number again and tell them that once a guardian is present you will answer any and all questions.

After I drill that process into his head we go over him not trying to be a hero when it comes to his other black friends.

....

Today I showed him the murder of Alton Sterling. Why? Because I normally hide these images and things from him, I only tell him what happens because we do not watch the news or have regular TV access, we only stream but today I needed him to see what I’ve been telling him about for once so that he truly understands that the rules I lay upon him are not to scare him but to protect him from being an Alton Sterling, or a Tamir Rice; a young boy whose death haunts me every time I think about him. He knows that these things may never come his way but if they do, he is prepared....
