2017 NFL Draft Thread (April 27-29)

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Raiders fan here. Offensive Line was one of the least of the Raiders' needs. I would have been highly disappointed if we would have picked Cam with our first pick. So what do the Raiders do instead? They pick a guy with rape allegations looming over his head. BRILLIANT!!!!

Raiders gonna Raider. Always.

But I usually pull for them these days with Cooper out there. It's going to be interesting to see how they do in Vegas.

Don't they need a RT though? If so Cam could have solidified their line. Building a team around OL seemed to work for the Cowboys.

I'm falling in love with the Raiders. Love Derek Carr, love Amari Cooper, love Khalil Mack and love that Marshawn Lynch will be in their backfield. He fits perfectly with the black and silver.

You are going to be pretty happy with Conley. He played better than Apple in our system, and Apple has performed very well in the NFL. And the rape charges are totally bogus.

Heck, I read the report and immediately knew a defense attorney worth anything would pick it apart like Drew Brees against a junior high team.

NFL Draft Thoughts

1. 10 overall picks for Bama, and 4 in the 1st round. Bama will continue to use the NFL pipeline message in recruiting...big time! Opposition recruiters will use the supposed drop of the first round players against Bama. They will say Bama players are overused and maybe injured. I doubt that will hold much water with recruits.

2 I wonder if Jonathan Allen is privately regretting coming back for his senior season. He was open about coming back so that he could be a very high pick...then ended up 17th. Agents will use this to try to convince players to leave early if possible. I hope players will listen to Coach Saban and trusted voices...but who knows.

3. The trend that I hate is high draft prospects skipping out on bowl games. Since Fournette and Mccaffrey went so high...I suspect this trend will continue and probably increase.

I'm not sure he would've gone much higher the year before. He was regarded as similar to Reed and Robinson and they both went 2nd round..

Yea, I am normally hesitant to declare someone innocent or guilty until I hear the whole story but this is different. Assuming he is innocent I'm glad it didn't cost this kid a lot of money.

I think Allen partially came back because he was going to have surgery. If anything it might have helped him that he played without a brace this year and played well. He might have fallen even farther but its hard to know.

I don't mind LF or CM skipping their bowl games at all tbh. They both had nagging injuries and projected high picks. At some point you have to look out for yourself IMO.

Have any of you seen the "twitter feud" going on between Ryan Anderson and some NFL Draft guy? I have to admit while I love Anderson and glad he is a Redskin the guy has a point about his 3 cone time and overall athleticism.

What are other teams going to say? "See! Their guy didn't go top 10 like they said. He went 17.... Our guy? Oh yeah... First one was drafted in the third round."

The combine is ridiculous anyway. They should make the players wear pads and do the tasks.

Not as bad as we need secondary and LB help. However, I'm now convinced the problem is DC Ken Norton Jr more than it is personnel. This will be Norton's MOT season. IMO, he should have been canned the second the game clock struck triple oughts against Houston. He's completely lost as a DC.

The combine is far from perfect but there is a reason it exists. I don't care at all about his 40 time but his 3 cone is a concern. 7.78? thats reallllly bad. Only OL and maybe a few DL test that poorly. He also had a really bad vertical

Fair. I don't know much about the Raiders D except for the fact they somehow turned Amerson into a good CB and that Mack is a monster. I feel like there is a general shortage of good DCs in the NFL right now though. When the Redskins were looking for a new one most of the options were guys like Wade Phillips who have been around the NFL for years.

Yep was thinking the same thing, I think this year helped him regardless. He got a lot of pub and best player in college football talk that he didn't receive the prior season. Teams made too big of a deal out of his shoulders to be honest. Didn't Julio go through the same scrutiny because of his injuries? Seemed to have worked out well for the Falcons

...but he didn't go around the cones fast enough...

Obviously I see the guy's point but Anderson's point is even more tangible and the larger body of evidence that is his on field performance at Alabama should outweigh how fast he shuffled between 20 cent cones with no pads on. Draft guys are morons. Every year there is overwhelming evidence that the whole thing can be a craps-shoot so I'd take the empirical evidence of watching Ryan ACTUALLY playing football rather than how well he did in the exercise meant to simulate one aspect of the game of football.

So; we had NINE players picked before Awbarn had their first. They should hold a Big Cat Day and fly their bird around on draft weekend to distract their recruits.

on the best defense in college football, Anderson led the team in TFLs and forced fumbles and was second in sacks.

He never should have been able to do that since he can't run circles around those little cones! it's impossible!!!

The cone drills are more telling than the sprints as far as the combine goes. Still, as has been pointed out, running around in shorts ain't football.
