He is great at identifying and developing defensive linemen. Awesome hire...completely out of left field.

According to this article, he struggles at recruiting. It says he basically missed on his 2018 class. The word "struggles" was their term.

If so, he dosen't quite fit the recruiting profile CNS has been hiring recently.

Liked this comment from one of the Canes fans
Get Kevin Patrick and call it a day. Kool was a good coach but he couldn’t recruit worth a darn (changed that word to site appropriate) here. Sounds like he is headed to Bama were he won’t have to recruit since it pretty much sells it self.
I love it the fear is real all around the country. Another quote
I dislike that school…
We thank you. You keep hating and we will keep winning.

No doubt. I think some the sour feelings about his recruiting may have to do with Miami not being a great brand in his recruiting region. I dunno. I'd have to look closer to figure that one out.

The key is he developed players regardless of star rating. He will definitely be using the most talent he has ever had at his disposal.

Talk about the photographic negative of Lance Thompson.....outstanding position coach, no personal character questions, but questions about recruiting ability.

Just speculating with no factual basis whatsoever, but maybe he's coming to Tuscaloosa to develop that part of his own game?

Update: looking like this is for real..The U announced he's leaving, "to pursue other opportunities."

And he's been removed from their website.

Interesting side note -- played for Saban in Saban's one year as Toledo's HC.

Well, maybe his coaching ability will offset his lack of recruiting ability.....but with all the great #1 classes we have over the last few years the DL recruiting has been the most weak. Hopefully someone else on the staff can take up the slack.
