Alabama QB competition article

I watched the Sugar Bowl from last year, the first time I have seen the rerun. Hurts, at times tried to go through his reads and still wound up running out of bounds or took a sack. His throws were unfortunately all over the board. His TD pass in the first half was not a great throw, but Ridley was wide open due to the Clemson secondary fearing him running since we were inside their 10 yard line. The defense won that game holding Clemson to 188 total yards and 2 FGs.

My annoyance level would be at its peak. I don't want to see Jalen even get the ceremonial first series or first snap. I don't think the Tagavailoa family would be that pleased if that happened, either. I know, I know...we can't make decisions over what one player, recruit, or family wants. But I think this goes well beyond that. Unless there is an injury keeping Tua out, I want to see him play from the start.

Didn't he badly overthrow Ridley in the endzone on another attempt, or am I remembering that wrong?

I know he under threw Ridley when he had beaten his man...that allowed his defender to catch up to Ridley and break up the pass.

That could be it too. I would have to go watch it again to see. I prefer to watch Tua highlights over Jalen struggling. Or even watch Jalen's highlights from his freshman year.

I saw all I needed to see in the spring when #2 kept bailing out of the pocket leading to 3 and outs and stalled drives.

I also saw #10 stand in the pocket and drive the ball downfield with 1 year less on campus.

All three guys probably look good in 7-on-7 drills or against air..... but when Fall Camp comes around 2 will stay in the pocket and throw and 1 won't. We've seen enough at this point.

To be fair our QB's almost never do well against our defense regardless of the time of year. But then again, only generational type QB's do.
The issue with spring was not just that the QB didn't play well, it's the he exhibited problematic traits that hampered our team against good competition last year. If he had simply missed some throws but stayed in the pocket and showed good timing I would have been very encouraged.

Ugh. Here I am going over this again. My arm. It's so tired from beating this horse. lol.

It's hard to keep talking about this but its equally hard not to. Tua's performacne in the NCG was the ultimate tease.
