Pretty good analysis. We can put out 4 wideouts, a TE and a RB on a wheel route. I don't think they can successfully jam everybody. Meanwhile, their fans are concerned about their pass rush, especially with White out. It will be interesting...
Yah, interesting for us to watch how many players on our offense can put yards on them. I think the cumulative talent on our O is just too lethal. There is an inevitability to our offense putting up points - like Clemson with Deshaun Watson. It was going to happen and it might have been ugly but points go up. If LSU can't respond, expect the stadium to thin out midway through the 3rd.

LSU is getting back one of their best O Linemen who has missed the last 4 games. I wonder if this will help their offense some with their run game especially?

LSU's weakness (offense aside, but when is LSU's offense not a glaring weakness?) is the pass rush of their front 4. The line backing corps. is fast, athletic, and sure tackling, every bit as good as UGA's last season. LSU's secondary, especially Fulton and Vincent, has improved vastly over the course of the season. Throwing the ball will be no cakewalk. However, I believe lack of push by the LSU line will give Tua enough chances throughout the entire game to put up points. First team to 14 wins, and Alabama is going to be to 14 a hell of a lot sooner than LSU.

Any news on Smitty?

On their pass defense, I said that this is probably the game Irv. Smith Jr. goes off. But, considering how we really haven't featured the pass-catching ability of our RBs on a consistent basis, I wouldn't be surprised to see them have a huge game of catching the ball out of the backfield.

Also, for those who have not listened to Tua today - he says that his knee is 100% and that he is only wearing the brace because the coaches asked him to for protection.

Josh Jacobs is the guy no one talks about and I just can't understand why. There are so many play makers but he might be the most versatile. One of my favorites on the team. He was outstanding against Tennessee.

Watching videos ..when we run a route at the first down marker to the wide side with the other receivers clearing out deep the back is practically always open on the back side. This is the type of situation where any of our backs could be dangerous but JJ could take it all the way. On the short pass to Damien from near our own goal line against Tennessee the safety was the only defender in the area and Damien ran completely over him for a first down. The same could be said for Irv Smith when he is in the slot. I would not relish trying to contain this offense with all of the threats that have to be defended all over the field.

This game comes down to the offensive line. They have been a major strength of the team so far. Cotton has been inconsistent and that's why Brown played at Tennessee. I'm interested to see if that happens again this week. Cotton struggled with LSU two years ago and got replaced the next week. Leatherwood and Wills have been great protecting Tua's blind side.

So the bit of Finebaum I heard driving home Spears and McElroy were debating on blitz v. coverage against Alabama's offense.

I tend to believe that coverage is the key against an RPO heavy offense such as our own. You don't blitz more than 5 and you coach your DL to read the QB's eyes to deflect throws. The key is to change things late, disguise drops, and bring the 5th guy on occasion. I think our OL's pass protection has been exceptional too, so if you blitz and these guys do their job then you've just opened yourself up to a flamethrower from Tagovailoa. They'll blitz but not near as much as some think. Tua's only fault I see is his willingness to hold the ball for a long time if he reads no blitz or anticipates a great protection from his OL against a blitz they identified. A defense can exploit that a bit if you have a four-man pass rush that can win more than their fair share because his clock may not line up with reality in those moments.

If I was coaching a top end FBS defense, I'd play Alabama like Saban and crew normally play Ole Miss now. Split safety predominantly, mostly man coverage underneath the split safeties. Mush rush with an emphasis on deflecting the football instead of pass rush. Make Alabama prove that they can run the football to move downfield. The offense has had it so easy with explosive plays, they may get impatient in the booth or on the field and force things.

Corollary to that: If Alabama shows they can run you out of split coverage due to patience and high success rate with the run then you're not beating them either way. If you blitz Tua, you're gonna give up 4 TDs due to the protection giving just enough time for him to burn you on a deep throw or catch and run. I truly think it is to the point where you've gotta put a check on Alabama's willingness and ability to run the ball...and your team having to stop it without an extra guy around in run support.

We can win without DeVonta if he isn't 100%.

Keys to victory:

1. Punting units grades out as a B.

2. Win the LOS both sides of the ball.

Everything else will take care of itself...

That plan's been tried this season but not by a team with the talent of LSU's. In their case, they may have more reason, simply because their DBs are so admittedly gifted...
