2018-19 Coaching Carousel (other than Bama)...

Re: First Head Coaching Casualty of 2018

I gotta imagine that those interviews that were just "interviews" must have been legit opportunities to give up OC at USC

Still can’t figure out why someone would leave a major school like West Virginia to take the Houston job—unless there is a boatload of money involved.

Holgorsen has friends in Houston, loves the city and coached there under Sumlin. He knows the high school coaches and is well respected. He’s getting a nice raise because billionaire whatshisface (big booster) wants Houston to be a top ten team a la UCF. They think DH can do it. We’ll see.

First I don’t understand the affinity pro teams have for Kingsbury but then again I’ve never been an NFL GM so....

So realistically what are the chances Kliff lands one of those job? My guess the odds would not be that high. So if you’re Swan you let him interview and hope he doesn’t get an offer.

Looks to me Swan “bluffed” and Kingsbury decided to call him on it.

Could be, or it could just be that the man decided not to let anyone else control his future. He has plenty of money - walk away money. And there are plenty of teams that would gladly hire him to run their offense. He has no risk here.

Just read where Texas Tech owes him $4 million in buyout over the next two years with no clause in his contract that the buyout would be reduced by future earnings if he took another job. Offers you a lot of freedom to say “screw you Lynn” and roll the dice. Even if he doesn’t get an NFL HC gig, he’ll land somewhere.

I feel the opposite. I know he's rich by mere mortal standards, but you've gotta have a solid chance to walk away from a pretty solid job in the USC OC position.

Could be - we'll know soon enough. But these guys have huge egos. They always think that they are wanted.

Re: 2018-19 Coaching Carousel

I just can’t see Kingsbury as the HC of the Jets. The New York media and that fan base would crucify whomever makes that decision. The Cardinals, maybe...

What's their real competition around there? WV has the big 12 offenses to combat, all the while trying to get players to come to scenic Morgantown.....

Houston fires coaches who only win eight games a year so they hire a guy who only topped eight wins twice in eight seasons and averaged 7.625 wins a year.

It will be a little easier to win at Houston if he can recruit there.

Fun fact: the average distance for college programs recruiting is 250-350 miles.

Houston: 15 miles

We’ll see how he does.

Re: First Head Coaching Casualty of 2018

Kingsbury got terminated for on-field performance at a mid-tier Big-12 school but immediately he is hired as an NFL head coach because he coached two hot young QBs at the former employer that terminated him for poor performance.

The NFL owns. This league is real smart.

Next thing we’re going to hear Larry Culpepper, inventor of the College Football Playoff, is announced as special assistant to Roger Goodall and his “commissioner in waiting”.
