Game Thread: Cotton | Penn St. vs Memphis (12p ET | ESPN)

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Memphis is no joke, but they simply don't have the athletes to line up and beat a motivated P5 team.

Remember, this is literally the biggest game in Memphis school history. This is a normal bowl game for State Penn.

IOW, if State Penn focuses and plays as they're capable, they'll simply out-man Memphis. But if they slack at all, play sloppy, etc., Memphis can win it.
Hope Memphis wins. SPU just ain’t elite.

I was just about to say that Memphis needs a turnover or this game may be over. Boom, the line parted like the Red Sea for a big touchdown run. I think the Lions have it.

Lawnboy Chain - looks like something you would buy in one of those carts set up on the floor of your local mall.

Memphis in the Cotton & UVA in the Orange. These bowl games have become a joke. Why don’t they just line ‘me up by the rankings and award them 5vs6 7vs8 etc. what a political farce.

Folks wanted a committee and this is what it produces.

Also Memphis is in this game because of anti-trust threats. They have to throw the G5 teams a bone or they will get sued.

The CFP gave us a playoff but it also established a system where the top-end bowls are mostly trash because it is about spreading the money around to all the key parties. Taking #3 and #4 out of the consolation bowl equation is a big part of it but the selection process is clearly about making sure the major conferences get as many payouts as possible rather than giving us more watchable bowls. Alabama v. Michigan is literally a better bowl matchup on paper than any of the 4 non-CFP NY6 bowls other than maybe the Rose Bowl.
