I don't understand the part we need Mac more then Tua. If Tua stays you have Tua, Taulia and Bryce. If he leaves you have Mac, Taulia, Bryce. There is no more chance that Tua gets hurt then if Mac gets hurt. If Tua stays you will actually get more snaps in the preseason and spring for either his brother or Bryce because Tua doesn't need those extra reps with the starters like Mac still does. Give me Tua and the other two as backup options over Mac and the back up options any day of the week.

Agree. I am not sure Mac is good enough to lead us to a title, we know Tua is good enough to lead us to a title. Bryce is considered by many to be a generational talent like Tua. He sets us up for 2021 better than Mac. I think Mac is a solid QB but, he does not have the upside of Tua or Bryce.

One thing I hadn't really thought about until recently.....what if the family wants him to declare for the NFL so that he doesn't take a year away from Taulia competing for the #1 spot?

I think it is the other way. They want him to stay to be there to mentor his brother. If he comes back, a good chance 'Lia is the primary back up and gets a lot of PT. GIves him a better shot to compete with Bryce in 2021. (That said, Bryce is a generational talent so I'd expect Bryce to win the job)

We've won more titles with quarterbacks of lessor "upside" than both Tua and Young than with. There's no doubt in my mind we could win a title with Mac Jones. If you project his numbers out over a full season he's throwing for over 4,000 yards and 40 TD's. We can no longer say he hasn't done it against quality teams. He's lit up two top notch defenses in big game environments. He's more than capable of leading us to a NC.

Tua returns is my vote...
(Voting with my heart, instead of my shrinking brain)
Like the British Band from the 70s ask???...
'SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO'...

Guess we will find out Monday.
(If Tua elects to return, that would be the biggest story of the year.)

College football has changed. You aren't winning a title without a legit superstar at QB anymore. The game is too tilted towards the offense. Especially in the passing game. PI calls are more frequent and holding is no longer called with any regularity or consistency. Then you have linemen wandering around downfield while a pass is thrown. You have to put up big numbers and win some shoot outs along the way. The days of the '09, '11, and '12 teams is over. The defenses simply can't stop these offenses, and it leaves a team with a game manager at a huge disadvantage. Maybe Mac becomes way more than a game manager, but right now I don't see him getting all the way. Bama will win a lot of games with Mac, but who would want going against Clemson a healthy Tua or Mac. I'm taking Tua.

Without a injury riddled defense we could beat Clemson or anyone else with Tua or Mac.

I'm a huge fan of both guys.

If Tua does come back and is himself that will be amazing and awesome.

But If he leaves and Mac is the starter then I think Mac will be the SEC Offensive POTY in his place.

He's LEGIT. After the way he shredded both AU and Michigan I don't see how anyone could question his talents.

In 3.5 games and some change he put up these stats

97 of 141 for 1,503 yards (68.8%) 10.7 YPA 14 TD's 3 INT's QBR 186.84 (3rd in the NCAA if Eligible)

If you project his stats for a full season based on how often we throw the ball it would be a line like

3,800 Yards Passing 35 TD's 7 INT's and that's a conservative estimate.

We have won national championships without having the best qb in the country. As a matter of fact, CNS has never won a national championship with the best qb in the country. Right now I would rank Mac #3 behind Burrow and Fromm, straight up. Both of those guys are likely gone after this year. We could win the SEC, and very likely the national championship, with Mac Jones at qb.

Either way Alabama will be fine, but I imagine that if Tua comes back and Mac leaves there will be several major DI programs standing by to offer him a scholarship. The guy is legit.

I would take Mac over Fromm right now....
Burrow is a senior.....
Tua is still better than Mac.....

We didn't lose any games because of Tua -- we lost them because of our shortfalls on defense....

With the inevitable awarding of the contract for TV to ABC-ESPN Tua will definitely have a spot doing TV. He's well spoken, knows the game, and most people like him. What a legendary story it would be if he were to come back and lead us to a title. Can anyone think of one that would compare? I wish him much success in whatever he chooses to do. RTR

What the hell does Mac have to do to satisfy some of you?

I'm satisfied with Mac -- but if I had a choice....

I can be satisfied with a great high-quality Hamburger. But if a truly great steak is an option.....

But, keep in mind, you asked that question to a group that had some questioning whether Saban had lost his touch and suggested it was time for him to move on.....

One UM poster, who appeared to be a bit trollish, disparaged Mac and got jumped by a hole row of other posters. One pointed out that Mac wasn't any 3* scrub QB, that he was a strong 4*, Elite Eleven-type QB...

All comes down to OL play at the end of the day. When Tua had time to throw he made big plays. Some of his worst throws were when he left the pocket and tried improvising. Mac has gotten hit several times between Auburn and Michigan because he stayed in the pocket and delivered the strike for a big play. He will only be better next year after having the same coordinator for the first time in awhile.

I hope he goes to the NFL because I would hate for him to return, get hurt again, and hurt his NFL chances more.

I think he goes. I understand the family angle and faith playing a major role with his family. I understand the passion for Bama and college football. In the end though, when you have an opportunity to earn first round money, you take it, even if it isn't top first round money.

Nothing is guaranteed so, coming back doesn't mean he'll have the same opportunity next year. What if he stays healthy but, isn't the same player he was before the injury and has a down year? That could hurt his draft stock even more. You know you are a first round pick this year, you don't know that about next year. Take the money and run. I will not think any less of him if that's what he decides to do.

I certainly agree about Mac. The big issues that have to be fixed for more NC runs aren't behind the center. They are:

1. Handling big game atmospheres. Last three big games we have stretches of the game where the team just looks like it blew a tire. End of the first half vs LSU, inside the redzone vs Clemson, being inside Jordan Hare.

2. Defensive performances. I know a ton of the issues against good teams are all the injuries to the inside, lack of experience, lack of depth etc.....but the D really didn't look like anyone was improving throughout the year....until the second half of the Citrus Bowl. This one goes back to big game atmospheres....the D has a tendency to look overwhelmed, to look soft in those games.

Mac looks great, I think the offense will be fine. Its that D that has me concerned. Hopefully the injury bug subsides in 2020, at least then we can see if that and early departures were the big issue or was it a scheme/coaching/attitude issue.

The current trajectory that Mac is on places him as the 2nd best QB in the Nick Saban era behind only Tua. And the separation between those two would not be great at all. I realize what Tua does with accuracy is unmatched, but what ultimately matters are results and Mac's results are fantastic.

I think Mac is an NFL starting QB if he continues his progression. I would absolutely hate to see that play out at another school. Especially an SEC rival.

i'm also a bit worried that if he returns everything will be about tua and not about what we need to do as a team to succeed. and this is in no way a swipe at tua, the hype will be off the charts and he will be under a microscope.
