I would rather have two years of Mac than one more of Tua, and then risk having him get hurt. I am sorry, but that's how I feel.

I like Mac, but I would rather have Tua. Tua healthy, heck Tua at 80%, is better than Mac. Nothing against Mac. He’s a good player but Tua’s accuracy is unlike anything I’ve ever seen in college. If Tua goes I’ll understand and buy a shirt and hat of whatever team he is drafted by and follow his career just like I do all my favorite Bama players.

Drew Brees looks like he could play 2-3 more years right now. There are some places where their roster quality and QB situation are very similar to the Favre-to-Rodgers handoff. Especially given that Tagovailoa very easily could fall into the bottom quarter of the first round.

Thing is, you are assuming that Tua will still be Tua. There is literally unknowable. Hip injuries like this change your base. He has said himself that he will never have the hip flexibility that he had before this injury, and you use your hips to throw the ball. Tua will essentially have to relearn how to throw the ball with his "new" body because the mechanics will change.

We all want the best for Tua, and if he can come back to Alabama, play at a Tua level and stay healthy, we will all rejoice. But his returning is only the first piece of that. Without Mac, you need all three pieces or the other two won't be enough.

I might be setting myself up for a moment of selfish disappointment....

But I think he's decided to stay. Lots of online chatter has been leaning this way the last week as well.

If he does I think it will because:

1) He and his family won't feel 100% sure that Top 5 is a lock anymore. Miami has (3) 1st round picks. They could promise they will take him at 5 then 'change their mind' last minute at try to get him with a lower pick. There is some real risk at falling to the bottom half of Round 1

2) He may really feel that coming back at putting together an injury free full season will put him back in #1 Overall pick status (which it would) and he will get one more chance to win a NC and Heisman.....if for some reason this doesn't pan out UA will properly have insurance for him this time so heis guaranteed not to miss out on Top 5 Draft money.

There is a risk either way.... But if being drafted in the Top 5 is the main concern then coming back might actually be the smarter play.

I wish him all the success he deserves no matter what he decides.

It's been a pleasure to watch him play and he's been a fine a representative of the University as we have ever had.

After reading through the thread, I not only think Tua will go pro, I hope he does.

From a risk / reward perspective, it strikes me as a no-brainer. From an emotional perspective, I selfishly just don’t want to go through the roller-coaster.

All the best, Tua. Hope you make the NFL forget Tom Brady, starting in August of 2020.

Ive said it before, intentional grounding is a spot foul with loss of down, same as a sack without the hit!
Bama was up 35 to 7 over Miss State with 3:10 to play in the 2nd quarter when Tua was injured. Not a "do or die" situation.
I said after the Tennessee game and again after the Miss. State game. Given a play on 3rd and 4 yards to gain, a player needs to consider not just the four yards you give up by throwing the ball away. You risk giving up the hundreds, maybe thousands of yards of offense for your team lost when you get injured and cannot play the rest of this game and every subsequent game.
Tua plays the game as if he believes he can (or needs to) score a touchdown on every play.
Ending a drive with a punt is not failure. A turnover or a significant injury to a player is failure. Punting is part of the game.

That young fella is nothing but class. He will always be one of my favorite QBs. And he is right up there with Namath, Todd, Rutledge, McCarron, and Terry Davis Won't be surprised at all if he stays...but I think his folks will nudge him toward the next rung of his career. It awaits. :geek:(y)

I think he will stay but will not play. He needs to get healthy and can do that at Alabama while finishing his degree. He gets to have another year with his brother and can help all the quarterbacks at the same time. Who knows he may want to coach someday.
How would that be any different than declaring for the draft this year, other than the draft order?

Yes, but...................

There is no doubt Tua is batter than pretty much anyone who has tossed the pigskin. While in theory, we are better with him, there are legit concerns why "we" might not be.

1.) No one, including Tua himself, knows how his game will be affected, by his injury. Not to mention how durable he will be. As we have seen, more than once, we are one snap away from seeing how good his backup is. If Mac is a grad transfer, we are in bad shape for a backup. With Tua and Mac both here, they will have to share more reps that the starter should have. Mac simply must have more practice time, in order to be ready on moments notice. With the expectation Mac is the presumptive starter, he can only benefit from getting the bulk of reps.

2.) Mac is a tough kid. With the exception of one ill-advised throw to the wrong should of Najee, he plays within himself. Tua, OTOH, tries too hard to extend plays. Very likely he feels the pressure of the team's success rests solely on his shoulders. It doesn't. Sure, the bulk of the load may fall on him, but it is a team game. Mac strikes me as a player that will make smart plays, yet won't go out of his way to bail the team out.

Which leads me to one point lots of folks will probably not want to hear.

3.) Tua is our superman. All of us expect him to pull our chestnuts out of the fire, without exception or question. But we are just fans, and we can do that silly stuff. Watching how we have played at times, the last 2 seasons, you have to wonder if some of our players have the same mindset. A blown assignment, out of position on a play, whiffing on taking a bad angle, failing on "edge contain", and lousy tackling..................hey, no problem! We get the ball back and Tua will hit one of our WRs for a 40+ yard TD. Mistake overlooked!

These guys have to get that "Bama factor" back. It is great so many of them want to come back for their Sr year, and right the wrongs of the last 2 seasons. With Tua under center, I fear some of them might fall back into old bad habits, and it is lather, rinse, repeat of the last 2 seasons.

No, as much as I would like to see Tua come back, rehab at our expense, and get one more ring ( and maybe some more awards), we might be better off facing reality (life after Tau) now, and let Mac get the bulk of reps in spring and fall camps. Tua has nothing to prove to us. (Maybe he does, to some NFL GMs.) He'll always be one of the greatest in our history. Not sure how much higher could wind up on the list of Bama greats. He will probably be without peers.

RTR!

That's kinda where I am...……………….I'd love to have him back, but he has to do what's best for him. Of Course, I don't trust NFL teams that might tell him "yeah we will take you early" but then drop him for a bargain......…......its a risk either way, but sometimes its best to take the money and run

Cole Cubelic keeps saying that Tua broke his wrist in the spring. He did not. He broke his finger. Get your facts straight.

Here's the beautiful thing. Bama is playing with "house money". If Tua decides to come back, we are set! If Tua decides not to come back. We've got Mac Jones running the offense and now we know what we have in Jones. A rising star at QB that can light up a scoreboard. We're set folks, either way.
Agree, except it could impact other players staying/going.

I think he stays because that's what he wants to do in his heart. He just seems like the kind of guy that doesn't place money as high on the priority list as most. I think his career at Alabama is eating at him and he wants to fix it.

Whatever decision he makes, I think it will be the right one for Tua and his family. I'm not sure he doesn't consider Alabama family, especially the team.

Yep, this is a real thing in sports. When you've got a star player other players (without even realizing they're doing it) don't play as focused or as sharp. Because subconsciously they have this thought the star player will bail them out. I completely agree with your train of thought.

It could. But even still, we would not have a quarterback problem. We would be set at QB either way. I also have to think Jones has proven a lot to his teammates. I would think the WR's on the fence wouldn't comeback if Tua didn't because they didn't think the guy behind him could get it done. Maybe I'm looking through Crimson colored glasses. But there's no doubt in my mind Jones could not only win us a NC but be one of the best QB's in the country. With or without Tua, we're going to be able to throw the ball all over the field again next season. That is always attractive to WR's.
