Monken joins the Browns from Tampa Bay, where he helped orchestrate the best passing offense in the league. The Buccaneers also boasted the third-best total offense in the league despite alternating between Jameis Winston and Ryan Fitzpatrick as their starting quarterback. Both quarterbacks posted career highs in completion percentage and quarterback rating under Monken this year, and Fitzpatrick also threw for the most yards per attempt of his career. Monken, much like new Browns coach Freddie Kitchens, is an aggressive play-caller. He was recently quoted as saying, "I like having fun. I don't know why it has to feel like such drudgery all the time. Who needs more 5-yard plays? How can we be explosive?

I wonder if the same thing can be done on the defensive side of the ball (Defensive Specialist)? Get someone from the NFL dedicated to finding ways to defend these high flying offenses. As it is now, all defensive staffs in college are in a reactionary mindset. They watch film and react to what they think the offense is going to do based on the film. Whereas, if the someone on the staff had the time to dedicate to putting a more "offensive" mindset to the defense, rather than having to specifically spend time on the next teams' offense. I wonder how that would work?

I think UGA is trying to copy LSU without the parts necessary. A lot of LSU’s success in the coaching staff was largely due to them being on the same page and putting their egos in a bucket.

Listened to Judge talk about Belichick's defensive philosophy. He said that Belichick's emphasis is in finding out what each player does well and using that to develop a defense that will work. In short - the NE defense is different every year because the players are different. Remember that Belichick does not go after super-stars. He wants good players, not great players, and he wants to put them in a position to succeed. (good vs. great to manage payroll in a hard cap NFL world)

I just wonder if maybe Saban and his staff could take more away from that?

Ah yes, the Jimmies and Joes. I just think roster management is easier in the Pros since you know so much about the players (although there's the injury wildcard). You are just not guaranteed when recruiting highschool players as they are still growing, body and mind. Lots of hits and misses. I am sure that Nick and Bill have discussed this subject many times but Nick is more in the teaching/mentorship mode while Bill is more just managing players.

IMO... NFL and College are different. What works in NFL may not work on College level. Also, I don't think this would work when they have 4 years to develop v.s. NFL where they get little more time without classes to distract them.

Different than Boise State - yes. Different than Alabama? Not as much. Alabama is an NFL team. And I am not sure how much more they practice in the NFL given the year long practice that takes place in college.

I have to ask.... Since we've been asking since December... Will there be any coaching changes within Alabama Staff or not?

I find it incredible interesting that we have not had one single movement as of now, compared to the past where we would hear rumors of people leaving/moving on to another school or NFL. We would hear about GA, analysts, etc... but this time.. not one single peep. We've heard about Bo Davis, Kevin Steele, etc... but nothing.

Lot of Good DC are now taken... so who would be replacing Golding this late ? This has me thinking that we're not changing much after Feb Signing day and Golding will be here.

Can you translate that? Now, I can understand those last TWO words. Those are the ONLY words where I do not need a translator for that dude. It's GREAT to have a coach where you can UNDERSTAND EVERY WORD HE (Coach Saban) says.
