Nick Saban says Crimson Tide football players safer at Alabama than 'running around at home'

Gotta remember it is a lot easier for someone to step up and say they want to play than it is for someone to step up and say they really don’t think it is safe. There is a lot of power dynamic disparity between the player and the school. A player isn’t risking their position with a program by saying they want to do the thing the program needs to do to remain financially solvent.

I’m not saying there would be a retribution within our program specifically but I think we’ve all got to consider this reality. That is why I think a player’s association is essential. Lets put all the plans on the table and see how the players vote on a ballot. I think the players need guarantees if they do opt out from competition in 2020. I don’t want guys out there who are worried about the risk to their own life and loved ones. I don’t think the team can get the best out of those guys anyway...and that hurts the whole in the end.

Yes, but not consequences for Coach Saban. Heck, he could waive his salary right now and not feel a thing.
I say that because GEN(R) Binford Peay, the Superintendent at VMI and the most Saban-like leader I know of in Virginia, refunds his salary to the Institute every year.

With the way things have been going, I suspect Title IX's days are numbered.
It will be a most interesting debate.

Do you accept football’s outsized consumption of scholarships, or do you accept little to no non-revenue sports of any gender?

I love it when ex cathedra academic prounouncements acquire real-world zero-sum implications.

So what if the season isn't played;

1. would all of the current players still have their eligibility next year even if they were a 5th year senior?
2. if that is the case then all the incoming freshmen for next year would put us over the scholarship
limit unless they are made exceptions for the year
3. if the season isn't played this fall it sure needs to be in the spring so that the seniors/draft eligible players
can move on with their careers/plans. i can't imagine the guys that came back rather than joining the draft
letting another draft go by.
4. this of course applies to each school
5. this whole thing is a mess but safety should come first... glad i didn't delete last years games yet

The NCAA and P5 most likely would come to terms and allow it.

Who knows. It will probably be some stupid plan like it always is when they make a ruling that has unintended consequences. (ie transfer portal)

I have serious doubts that any games will be played in the spring. 1st and 2nd rounders like Trevor Lawerence and Justin Fields may be all ready to play now, but I seriously doubt they would play so close to the Combine, and I seriously doubt the NCAA would ever allow college football to interfere with March Madness viewership.

More or less, if the season doesn't start by November then its over for 2020 like it was over in 1943.

I'm working my way through the 2009 season on Youtube. In the USCe game, Mark Ingram just put the team on his back in the 4th quarter and carried the team to victory). I'm up to the Tennessee game.

I’ve got $50 that says Saban won’t ever retire. Saban has been part of a team since he was 7 years old.

However, I’m very concerned that Saban will die of a heart attack on the sideline because of an offside penalty....with a 28 point lead.
I thought he was going to launch right out of jordan hare stadium like a rocket last season and take those officials with him after that crap call at the end of the 1st half. I was saying to the TV "I know coach, I know. For what it's worth, that was only awarded to malzahn because the game was in auburn". If that wasn't the angriest he's ever been, it was very very close.

Let's just play 2 games. Play Clemson in both of them. That will give us a season and be 2-0. Maybe add LSU and the Barn and make it 4 and 0.

;)

Just for the record, I checked the Covid cases among people between 10 and 29 in Virginia. 27, 757 cases, 6 deaths. (0.02%). No data on how many had damaged lungs, damaged heart, etc. For "normal" people, (i.e. not intercollegiate athletes), I doubt they'd check too closely.
