I spent some time talking to my boys about him last night. My boys are 20 and 23. Both went through a period of their lives in which they were very impressionable. Both were in danger, and my wife and I watched over them carefully through that period in their lives. It just seems to me that Rittenhouse didn't have that.
There are dangerous things in this world, and some of them are hard to see if you are not paying attention. Rittenhouse is responsible for his actions, but this was entirely avoidable. Now lives are lost, and other lives are horribly altered forever.
He is not a hero, and he probably isn't a villain. He is a kid who got caught up in things that he was not old enough to understand, dealing with consequences that he simply cannot process.
His life, as he knew it, is over - and it should be.
Idolizing him is reprehensible.
