SIAP, but this is a solid article from SI:
From the article

"In February, the SEC had announced it was distributing a record $657.7 million for fiscal year 2019-20, or almost $47 million per school."

A billion a year is not too far in the future.

Is this actually a thing, a done deal, or just posturing?
Let me put it this way:

the Aggies are all on their phones begging SEC school after SEC school to vote with them and being told "who else ya got" because nobody wants to be either the vote that kills it or put a target on their backs like Tennessee did with Florida in 1984.

At the same time, the accountants at all these schools are telling the Presidents, "Adding them will add X million dollars to the school's bank account."

Schools are all having to choose "loyalty to a late comer to the party" or "millions of dollars."

Not a hard choice for most people.

Why has the rumor been for years that Oklahoma and Okie Lite been a package deal?
I'm thinking it's because that WAS true in the case of Texas with the Aggies. The Aggies had to be included if Texas left but not the other way around. I think folks simply assumed it with Oklahoma.

Is it true that Texas left in the middle of the night just like this and screwed over the SWC.

It was never a packaged deal in legal terms, but our old President didnt want to leave OSU behind so he packaged it together as one big deal or nothing. OU fans could care less to be honest with you.

I don't even think A&M and UT are legally packaged together, if they are in some way I'm not aware of it, but your point of view could be the correct one.

IIRC, the Oklahoma legislature has previously passed a resolution that Oklahoma could not go anywhere without Oklahoma State being included.
This is false, that was the rumor going around to keep OU from bouncing out of the Big12 suddenly. There is no legislative laws that binds the two schools to the same conference. This type of law would require the vote of the people because of the way Oklahoma's legislation is setup, and 90% of the people are OU fans, so that wouldn't happen.

I think in both the OU/OSU and TU/TAMU cases, the only person that could nix the move would be the governor, as they are the top and intersection of the hierarchy at the schools (they appoint the board of regents)

Well it’s always odd since Bedlam is only an interesting rivalry when it’s in Stillwater, but it’s usually a butt whooping. It maybe worse than the Florida-Kentucky rivalry… no offense but I’ve never seen Oklahoma St as a good addition anywhere.

Is this the line to pick up our bottles of Aggie tears?
And so it begins, except I'd have guessed it would have been a UTx poster at the front of the line. I hope this doesn't become representative of the new OU posting crowd...

Okie lite is a lot like UT, they talk a lot of game and will even give you a good game when you play them (only with OU though). But they are pretty much just the spoiled brat in the room.

So if y’all have to live without them like Missouri has to live without Kansas then most Oklahoma fans wouldn’t care?
