I agree with LSU's decision (can't believe I just typed those words).
Thing is, I'm not sure it's as simple in Alabama as it is in Louisiana. And as with many things, there's lots of, "Yeah, but..."
Alabama has a ban on vax passports (as distinct from mask mandates). As in, you can't require proof of vaccination to enter any state building. I'm guessing BDS would qualify as a state building.
Yeah, but there are no penalties in the law.
Businesses can require vaccination as a condition of employment, and limit access to privately-owned buildings in that manner.
Yeah, but only a few have done that in Alabama. Yeah, but Pfizer got FDA approval only yesterday. More will.
Businesses can require a mask to enter their premises.
Yeah, but not many do, and fewer have any real enforcement.
School systems can require masks. Yeah, but that's God's own argument, currently being played out all over the state, complete with helicopter parents on both sides.
4Q Basket Case's prediction: There will be either a new wave or a new variant that makes the current situation look mild. The Federal government, whether through Congress or an Executive Order, will override all countervening state laws and require vaccination to do just about anything. There will be a federally-maintained database identifying who is and who isn't vaccinated.
The law and the database will be challenged in court. SCOTUS will hear the appeals in about nothing flat, and they'll both be upheld. Gaming the system, and getting logged in as vaccinated when you really aren't will be a serious felony. Not saying idiots won't try it, but it won't be easy, and if they're caught, consequences will be severe.
Insurance companies will either (1) start charging non-vaccinated people a higher premium, as they currently do with smokers, or (2) unless you're vaccinated, specifically carve out COVID as a covered condition.
