LSU will require proof of vaccination or negative PCR test for game attendance

I agree with LSU's decision (can't believe I just typed those words).

Thing is, I'm not sure it's as simple in Alabama as it is in Louisiana. And as with many things, there's lots of, "Yeah, but..."

Alabama has a ban on vax passports (as distinct from mask mandates). As in, you can't require proof of vaccination to enter any state building. I'm guessing BDS would qualify as a state building.

Yeah, but there are no penalties in the law.

Businesses can require vaccination as a condition of employment, and limit access to privately-owned buildings in that manner.

Yeah, but only a few have done that in Alabama. Yeah, but Pfizer got FDA approval only yesterday. More will.

Businesses can require a mask to enter their premises.

Yeah, but not many do, and fewer have any real enforcement.

School systems can require masks. Yeah, but that's God's own argument, currently being played out all over the state, complete with helicopter parents on both sides.

4Q Basket Case's prediction: There will be either a new wave or a new variant that makes the current situation look mild. The Federal government, whether through Congress or an Executive Order, will override all countervening state laws and require vaccination to do just about anything. There will be a federally-maintained database identifying who is and who isn't vaccinated.

The law and the database will be challenged in court. SCOTUS will hear the appeals in about nothing flat, and they'll both be upheld. Gaming the system, and getting logged in as vaccinated when you really aren't will be a serious felony. Not saying idiots won't try it, but it won't be easy, and if they're caught, consequences will be severe.

Insurance companies will either (1) start charging non-vaccinated people a higher premium, as they currently do with smokers, or (2) unless you're vaccinated, specifically carve out COVID as a covered condition.
Bryant-Denny is a state owned building, but you have to pay to get in.

I don’t know if the fact that you have to pay to enter affects the state’s ban on proof of vaccination as a condition of entry.

It’ll be interesting. But while I wish we would, I don’t expect us to follow LSU’s lead anyway.

Is this different than saying, it is voluntary to attend, if you are worried about the vaccination status of those around you, or if anyone is positive, watch on TV with millions of other fans.
No - like I said earlier, everyone needs to manage their own risks. But businesses get to set whatever rules they like.

No shoes, no shirt, no service.

This must be a Louisiana thing. The aints are doing the same thing.
That was the oddest set up. You needed a vaccine card or negative test. OR, you could get your first shot at the mobile clinic outside the stadium and get in. Which was counter productive to the other two requirements 🤷‍♂️. (ETA- this was the requirements for the Saints game).

I do wonder what the going rate will be to throw in a fake card with your scalped tickets, haha. $150 for the ticket and $175 for ticket and vaccine card, ha!

I assume the state leases it out, right? State ownership would be superseded by the leasing agreement, I believe.
I believe the issue isn't ownership . . . it's the ticket. When you buy a ticket, you are essentially entering into a contract and agree to abide by the school's rules. So, if a school decides that you must do X, for example-not bring in a gun, then you have to abide by that or you are refused admittance or escorted out.

Got it, you were stating the position of the business. You are correct they can do whatever they want.

I thought you were stating your personal opinion. My apologies.

I think everyone`s pretty much made up their minds as to whether or not to be vaccinated. I also believe that we have a substantial percentage of the population, short of being forced at gun point to be vaccinated, that will not be. This thing is here to stay and as a society we will learn the consequences ( societally, biologically/medically and economically ) of our decisions in this matter.

I wish every school would do the same...require all sports attendees to be vaccinated or show proof of negative test...Also, all students, faculty, and staff to be vaccinated. That would be a tremendous start to upping the vaccine level in our population.
Agreed. Hoping the Phizer FDA results will get more Alabama and southeastern people vaccinated. Would love to have some of these folks around for many more years.
