Speaking of analysts, is Jon Gruden too toxic or polarizing for rehab?
The rehab is for fallen coaches wanting to get back in the game. I think Gruden is going to simply live on the millions he's accumulated and thumb his nose at the rest IMHO.

...but is it an insult to ask for insight from someone who had played vs UGA a number of times in a game that may help BoB get back to the NFL?
Hard to think Mullen knows more about Kirby's D than Saban. That's a real stretch, since Saban taught him.

I always wonder about these rumors. If, in fact, this happened - who would know - Saban, BoB, who else? And how would this info get out ? Saban is iron-fisted when it comes to having loose lips. Hard for me to believe that some caller on a local radio station has this information.

And BoB isn't set on returning to NFL. Probaly at Bama next year and then a high-end college job.

Werent you also the person who said Kiffin was going to put 40 on us and wouldn’t post again if he didn’t? I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s hard to believe anything you say if you can’t even keep to your word even for 2 months.;)

Saban does hire people to assess his team during off weeks and bowl prep. Some of them would shock the hell out of people. So Mullen being in Tuscaloosa last week isn’t that much of a stretch. I would actually think it’s more unlikely that he wasn’t given his availability. That isn’t to suggest that he will be the OC or on staff next year, but it is exactly something saban does quite often.

I was really more asking a question. But Gruden is a Super Bowl winning coach, famous for evaluation and preparation. those traits would serve an analyet well.
1) Gruden winning a Super Bowl isnt as impressive as people make it out as. Ask a Bucs fan like @crimsonaudio what he did with that team after that 1 season, and if he believes that it was more Gruden or Dungy who built that team? Because we all know he single handedly destroyed that team. Yet everyone wants to remember him for his 1 year wonder, and not his 40 years in the wilderness. Because its kinda telling that it takes Tom Brady to go to Tampa to win their 1st playoff win since that Super Bowl.

2) There are alot better offensive minds and evaluators out there without a job than Gruden. Hell I would even say bringing back Weinke would probably be better or just as good as Gruden.

3) I dont think Gruden would ever be an assistant coach again. maybe a consultant on bowl prep but I dont see him being interested in coaching behind someone.

Rich McKay leaving the Bucs for the Failcons had as much to do with it as Gruden's idiocy, but yeah, that was Dungy's team, zero question. Gruden just injected a bit of energy and was lucky enough to draw his former team (who literally didn't change their calls from Gruden's time there) in the Superb Owl.

Perfect storm for Gruden to look good, which he did for one year.

After that, we saw the real Gruden...

In 2018, Josh McDaniels accepted the Colts HC job. It was publicly announced, and an introductory press conference was scheduled. He started building a staff (including said staff members leaving existing jobs), but then backed out before signing the contract, and stayed put in New England as an assistant.
I believe McDaniels back out of Indy because Ballard (Colts GM) wasn't willing to give him final say on personnel matters, something to that effect, allegedly.

What might make the Bears job more attractive today than the Colts a few years ago is one player..........Justin Fields. Fields has shown just enough this year to consider the possibilities. The Bears offense is not exactly empty. Montgomery/Herbert are an interesting duo. Mooney is a talent WR and Kmet is a nicely developing TE. If healthy Borom/Jenkins/Whitehair/Daniels is a nice, young core of OL.The Bears have a coach who claims to knows offense but doesn't actually know offense.

I think Fields is the kind of young talent to draw McDaniels out of NE. I know people will say why leave Mac Jones and NE and the answer is simply....Fields have the higher ceiling.

we know Dungy built that team, but Gruden did coach it to a championship. Something Dungy couldn’t seem to do. And he built the Raiders team he played against in the Super Bowl
I don’t think I ever mentioned on field coaching, and I’m not advocating for him in that role, or as an analyst

Dungy did win a Super Bowl as a HC. The point more is the fact that Gruden winning a SB doesn’t translate to “great offensive mind”. Especially when his defense won it for him. I mean how many people are really talking about Doug Pederson or Mark Kubiak like they still talk about Gruden. There are better coaches in the NFL right now that have never sniffed a super bowl than Gruden ever was.

Then why even bring him up unless you were seriously thinking about the possibility?

I’m glad you know what I am thinking, but you don’t. not That I really owe you an explanation , But the question was asked on an Aggie board, my reaction was no way in hell. But not because he wasn’t qualified, people a lot smarter than you or I about such things think he is pretty good , but more due to character flaws. So I posed the question here.

BTW, I loved Dungy. But he didn’t win a SB with that team, and the one he did win was a team constructed by Bill Polian.

Never claimed that I did.... But okay imagine I did if it really makes you feel better.

not That I really owe you an explanation ,
Yet you are doing it anyways.

But the question was asked on an Aggie board, my reaction was no way in hell.
Yet you decide to ask the question on an Alabama site? What changed from site to site?

. But not because he wasn’t qualified
Again what makes him qualified? Or better yet what makes him more qualified than others?

but more due to character flaws. So I posed the question here.
Even with his character flaws what pushes him to the front of the line? The guy aside from 2 seasons is very underwhelming and overhyped. He is basically Gus with a championship.
