Before the 2018 state elections, a discussion arose on my community Facebook group about the PSC. Several said they didn’t like Twinkle and wanted her out. Someone was plugging the Democrat running against her but nobody could bring themselves to vote for the Democrat.

Then in the city elections, someone was insisting the city council candidates declare their party alliance. (I live in a small town).

If the thought of one Democrat on the Public Service Commission or small town city council is so horrifying to people, you can see why Maddox and Jones lost so badly.

So basically people are allowing republicans to define democrats for them instead doing diligent work to educate themselves into informed voters, at least in republicans enclaves.
I think the Democrats do a damn good job of trying to defining themselves.

Like I said, Biden could give the most uniting speech in his career (which he did) only for it to be destroyed by his own damn party in the matter of days. The widely unpopular “defund the police” point should have ended Tuesday night but the Democrats on the far left of the party just can’t let it go…

Good question, mostly Republicans because the Democrats are not vocal almost in hiding. There are folks out there who want 2 competitive parties. I heat quite often, "I wish the Democrats would come back to the center on issues. They are out to lunch and I just can't consider them."

Granted he was running against a creepy candidate, but I believe Doug Jones found the right tone on the issues. Moore would be widely accepted in the Republican Party today. But Jones didn't allow himself to be defined by abortion and his background didn't send a soft on crime signal. Yes he didn't beat Tuberville but he was the superior candidate.
I don't live in Alabama anymore and I live in a blue area of Florida. I still know and am in touch with many conservatives both here and back home. I have never, EVER---and I mean EVER---heard any conservative say they might vote Democrat if a candidate came back to center. I'm sorry but all I hear are attacks on "libtards" and Dem pols. They parrot what they hear on right wing news sources which is frequently taken out of context, as seems to be the case on both sides, or exaggeration or straight up lies. They turn to those sources due to deeply entrenched indoctrination. About four years ago we went to Mobile for the wedding of a friend's daughter. While there, we went to the Mardi Gras Museum which was great. The docent, however, was an old southern woman. She found out I was originally an Alabamian and felt free to make nasty little asides to us about "Yankees", Hillary Clinton, Obama, and even JFK. When she said those names, she practically spit them. As she explained the costumes and histories of black orders, she got snide and condescending. She was appalling. All because she thought she could confide to a fellow southerner. I realize she was a bit older than I am but not by much and I hear similar from younger people. They don't want Democrats to come to center. They want them to vote on policy as Republicans do. Joe Manchin shouldn't be a Democrat. He fights against everything I believe in.

an awful lot of the folks talking about the dems needing to "move back to the center" (whatever the hell that means) are disaffected conservatives.

MTG and Dohbert and Trump are the fringe though, right?

Face it, mainstream republican is now those three and Disantis and the rest of the crazy loons.

Is it any wonder the rank and file hate democrats if they embrace those anti American nut jobs? Let’s get real here. Hell, they reject the center republicans who are really fairly far right but reject the big lie.

As for moderates, I hope they open their eyes.

I’ve posted this before - I watched Peter Jennings interview with Timothy McVeigh from years ago and a good deal of his “manifesto” is mainstream republican doctrine now.

You know, when I see stuff like this I often go read the actual bill to figure out why. It's not uncommon for there to be obvious reasons as to why something isn't voted for, such as pork spending completely unrelated to the bill. But this appears to be completely about studying and helping veterans potentially exposed to harmful toxins while serving and I find it unfathomable that anyone would vote against it.

Unforgivable.

Does that basically mean conservatives who don't like Trump and the aftermath of Trump?
Well the Democrats had better start paying attention to the Republicans that left the party due to Trump or they may not control either chamber of Congress, the white house, or the Supreme Court in 2025.

Dan, I literally do not know anyone who fits this category. I would think this is a miniscule portion of the electorate.
Cousin Narvez was like a lot of people in Alabama and Georgia with no education. These are folks that have never been out of the County they were born in. Cousin Narvez was real. One side of my wife's family has cousins out in the sticks no more than 30 miles from ALABAMA. These folks are illiterate Pulp Wooders. Lets just say they are kind of intolerant.

Republicans refuse to do anything to actually help their constituents and yet they continue to get elected. All because of abortion, guns and gays.

maybe if those republicans are truly concerned about the future of the country they can suck it up and put their egos aside and stop demanding to be put on a pedestal
