For everyone piling onto BOB remember he's not the boss - Saban is.

The issues we're seeing all end in Saban's lap - the entire football program is a reflection of what he wants it to look like. I'm not sure what's going on - maybe later this season (or in 2023) we see a return to the 'joyless murderball' that defined what it was like to play against Saban's Bama teams for so many years. Maybe we never see that again...

But regardless as to what the future holds, it's all on Saban. If you don't like the way the team is performing or plays that are called, start placing the blame squarely where it belongs - at the top. He's not above criticism, especially when we see clear patterns emerging.

I’m sure Jeff Lebby at Oklahoma is wondering what wagon he has hitched himself to with Venables.

Lebby was a name circulated by some as a possible replacement last year for BoB if he ended up back in the NFL.

Lebby is highly regarded as an OC. Of course that was before Venables made the brilliant move of hiring Ted “what does tacking look like” Roof as DC. Some glitter is off that rose for sure now.

Still, a 49-0 shellacking doesn’t look good on either side of the ball.

Agree - and it's because there's so much talent and potential on the field. If this was a team without talent and resources, you could appreciate their effort and grit. But this is a team with immense talent, and more resources than just about any team in the country. It's being squandered.

Watching someone squander talent and resources - whether it's your neighbor, brother, a business, government, or a team - is hard. Something about human nature just resists it.
In fact if someone were to tack on the 2020 season we are currently 32-2 in 2 and a half seasons. But it just doesn’t feel like it.

If he is a highly regarded as you say if I am saban I am blowing up his phone at the end of the year.

I’ll put it this way. I don’t believe OU will can Venables after a year. But you can bet, given what they face on their remaining schedule and most probably several more losses, there will be staff changes at least. Ted Roof at DC is as good as done. He may not make it to next week, much less the end of the season.

So would those changes included parting with someone like Lebby? Maybe or maybe not. But I could see Lebby being open to “listening”.

The biggest thing that concerns me with Lebby is his ties to Baylor/Briles/Sexual Assault scandal. He was named in “failure to report” part of that mess. And he is married to Art Briles daughter. Something I personally find slimy.

BY is a superstar - might be the best pure-talent QB we've ever seen at Bama.

But the rest of the team is chock-full of experienced and talented players. One player can have a significant impact, but BY's absence doesn't explain the lack of development we're seeing offensively nor does it address the seemingly constant penalties which extend the opponent's drives.

This Bama team seems to play emotionally, not business-like. That's a departure from teams past that I don't like.
I agree totally.
Two examples this year of team leaders doing non-business like actions that hurt the chances of winning:
1. Our best defensive player (a junior) pushes a guy in the back after the play in the Texas game and gets a personal foul penalty. It was third down, extends the drive, resulting in points.
2. One of our best defensive players, middle linebacker and a senior, pushes a player in the back after the play and gets a personal foul penalty. It was third down, extends the drive, and results in points.

I was all on board until the last thing you said. I can handle some dirt on my assistants. You don't ask a saint to catch a sinner. But the whole baylor thing may be a bit much for me to stomach. I don't know.

I admit to being guilty of an overstatement! I can say that I do not recall seeing an Alabama QB as mentally shaken as Milroe was at several points in the game.
I was also joshing with you a bit.
I figure it was hyperbole.

I think we're all on edge right now, though.

Because in 2003, we were already done for anyway.

I can agree with this. But I can also see how Saban could have made an honest miscalculation in hiring the guy and keeping him. We really had been having trouble keeping staff continuity and I don't blame Saban for wanting to keep coordinators together. It was a mistake but an honest one. and if I am a betting man. I think Saban knows he made a mistake right now. I don 't think BOB will be here next year even if no one comes calling for him as a coach. I saw the clip of Saban on the sideline screaming into the headset during the arky game.

As bad as Milroe's fumbles were, I remember Jeff Rutledge throwing five interceptions in a game. And it wasn't his first start, it was his second year as a starter.
Yes, but if you're referring to the game I think you're referring to:
a) it was on the road in a very tough road venue
b) against a team that ended the year ranked #12

Bad, yes, but that Nebraska team was light years better than aTm, too.

BOB's demeanor is similar to other coordinators such as Locksley when he was more than half way out the door and Daboll who didn't want anything to do with the work involved in being on CNS's staff. I can't help but believe that BOB feels the OC job is beneath him and he is BS'ing the media and himself while he, less than half heartedly, goes about taking a big pay check.

There are a ton of young coaches with excellent backgrounds who would put their heart and soul into play calling, player development and recruiting. Just my opinion but CNS needs to leave the Belicheck coaching tree and recruit a talented coordinator if he desires to finish his career with the similar success in line he has achieved at Alabama.

I was thinking OU probly has buyers remorse for the Venerables hire. Could they can him after a year and go for the ucheat coach with a brinks truck?

You can throw Doug Marrone in that category too.
