And I wonder when the NCAA will get around to punishing UT? Or are they trying to let it fade into the distance?
UT was sent the NOA back in July. They had 60 days to respond. Back in October they applied and received an extension on the response. UT has self imposed penalties and self imposed scholarship reductions. Whether that will be acceptable remains to be seen.

The thing that gets me is UT dodges lack of institutional control charge. That is baffling. Your head coach, three assistants and four staff members were directly named in the violations. How is it NOT lack of control if you have 8 of your employees involved?

One thing is certain; they will delay this as much as possible because each day that goes by the NCAA gets more and more impotent.

That's kinda where my head is on the situation. On one hand, yes, I think that JP screwed up and that has to be taken into account. That said, we are now on season #2 since all of that went down. And I have nothing to back this up but I do think that the NCAA's approach will be that someone needs to be punished and they would prefer that someone to be JP but I think even the NCAA knows how bad the optics would be if they held JP accountable but not UT. So while it would ruffle some feathers, so be it. If he's the guy that we want then why not pull the trigger and force the NCAA to make a move. If they were cheating as openly and abundantly as has been suggested then this investigation should be pretty cut and dry. And while they are dragging their feet on the investigation it puts JP in a coaching purgatory which is pretty much accomplishing the same thing as the show cause would. I know at the end of the day what I am suggesting is not the most likely outcome here, but would damn sure be entertaining to watch it play out.

I have posted this on several threads.

Today’s NCAA is nothing more or less than an event-planning organization. It plans and hosts (1) the NCAA basketball tournament, and (2) championship tournaments for a bunch of other non-revenue sports.

It does nothing else. No policing or punishments for anything — truthfully, after the UTe and UNC hypocrisies, followed by NIL, what’s left to punish?

You‘ll sooner see Mrs. Basket Case, wearing the Hope Diamond, dressed in a Vera Wang gown, on the red carpet leading to the Oscars, than you’ll see the NCAA do anything more substantive than host a tea party.

The NCAA, as an institution that has any credibility on any front, has been done since UTe /UNC. SCOTUS’s ruling on the O’Bannon case just stopped the corpse’s death throes.

I'm guessing there's a 0% chance Pruitt will be at Bama in the next five years as I cannot imagine him getting hired while his NCAA punishment hangs in the balance.
its probably more than that. I think the real concern is more of who we replace Golding and BoB with. I think offensively it will be more important in the short term than defensively.

I happen to know Brad Scott (Jeff Scott's father) -- a really good guy who knows offensive football -- he was an OL coach before becoming head coach at USC...then after being fired he was hired by T Bowden at CU and stayed on for the next 20 years in some capacity. I really don't know Jeff -- I knew him when he was in HS, but I do know that. he has grown up playing and studying football -- and while he was not successful at USF he was an outstanding OC and recruiter at CU. CNS could do a whole lot worse -- and maybe not much better than look at him.

WHY did Phatimus resign? There is NO doubt in my mind that he was in the thick of the whole mess...

IMHO, he resigned to keep the dreaded LOIC charge from being leveled against his beloved program.;)

I think the NCAA is out of the program-crippling business when it comes to violations and punishment. If Penn State and Baylor's football programs didn't get completely shut down for the things found going on within those programs, then no one is getting dealt program-crippling sanctions anymore.

Anyone who thinks that Jeremy arrived in Knoxville and concocted some elaborate cheating system is completely nuts. That had been in place for years.
